Blue Jays Ads

Well the genius behind the new Blue Jays TV ads should be given an award for his ideas.

The Blue Jays have a series of ads airing on TV with the slogan "It's a different game up here." Some of them are a bit funny, others are not, and then there are the one's that just don't make any sence.

In the series there is one ad in which Blue Jays players are taking their gear off after a game. One of the players is in the process of taking of his socks, the thing is he has about 10 pairs of socks on. I guess this is supposed to be a joke about the weather in Canada... The only problem with this is that the Blue Jays play INDOORS! Unless the roof broke on SkyDome, or the player has some weird sock superstition, then the joke makes no sence.

The guy behind those ads has to be the smartest guy in the world!

What about the Expos? Aren't they in Canada too? Why can't they be "Canada's team"? They're way better than the Jays and existed before. Plus, they had the coolest hat (SOPHISM!!!) in the history of baseball.

Anyway, just mindless rambling.... I'm starting to think maybe the ROC wants Québec to separate

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Why should the Expo's be Canada's team when all Quebec does is whine about being part of Canada?

I say let the buggers seperate, then sever all trade links

Actually, about 65% of the population in Québec wants to stay in Canada. We've just (unfortunately) elected the (center-right) Liberal part in Québec last month. I don't like to say this, but we won't separate for a while .

Your first argument is very "American" in a way, it cultivates hate and is a wrong attitude to adopt.

Ideally, I'd like Canada to be a confederation. If impossible, I'd like Québec to separate. It's not because Québec separates that Québecers hate Canada, don't think of it that way. For example, I like Scandinavia, Belgium and Netherlands, it doesn't mean I want to merge our countries. This is the situatuin with Canada: We are fundamentally different from the ROC and that's why the intellectual groups want to separate. It's not a matter of hating each other; I really like Canada, I just don't feel like it's my country.

The Baseball North campaign has done well. Along with the TV ads, there are ads running in the subway like "Phelps hit .309 last year, but with the exchange rate it's more like .454" "The most firepower north of buffalo" and showing delgado, saying "And we were worried about all our lumber going to the states" It's the first ad campaign in a while that has been interesting. And although the roof is closed in april... geez, have a little fun with it. We're representing the Jays as Canada's team, and Canada is... well, cold. My favourite ad is the one with Tosca sitting beside a giant freezer. You hear two thumps, and then he opens the door and says to Halladay "Congratulations, you're our starting pitcher." and you see two guys lying on the ground. Priceless.

They're also not going to be in Canada for much longer.

It's not old, that's the only tradition they kept. Before Take Me Out To The Ballgame in the 7th, they play this.

You've got a diamond
You've got nine men
You've got a hat and a bat and that's not all
You've got the bleachers (For being a Jays-only song, I find it odd that this is in there when the Jays have no bleachers. Of course it was written when they still played in Exhibition Stadium.)
You've got 'em from Spring 'til fall
You've got a dog
And a drink
And the umpire's call
Waddaya want?
Lets play ball
Okay
Blue Jays
Lets Play Ball

(there are more versus, but i don't know them off the top of my head.)

Don't worry, Jean. For what it's worth, many of us don't consider Quebec part of our country either. Frankly, it's embarrassing to me to have Quebec as one of our provinces. The problem is if you separate, I can guarantee you'll still be counting on support from the federal government. And sadly I know you'll get it. This is a province that got it's land out of pity, and now wants to make a country out of it? Hell, if I were the prime minister I'd just let them go, and assume if they don't want to be part of the country, they don't want any of the benefits that come from being part of canada. And the first thing I'd do is get the UN to sanction them for their human rights violations.

Stop it with your human rights violations!!! It's not like you get hanged for speaking in English on the street...

If you were the PM, you wouldn't let them go. We wouldn't want to, Québecers (well, except the intellectual and cultural groups)want to stay in Canada.

I loved that Jays song!

I actually have (had?) the tape they made back in 91 with a bunch of cheesy songs. Used to love it when I was younger.

I saw this one a while ago, but from what I remember, Josh Phelps is at bat, and he just decides to knock the catcher out cold, then raises his hands in the air, as if to deny what he did was wrong.

Another one I liked is after a Blue Jays win, Carlos Tosca exits the dugout, and two players dump a bucket of Gatorade on him - except this Gatorade is a frozen hunk of ice.
