help please...

Hi all...
recently bought ootp and having tons of fun. Im trying to recreate my 12 teams APBA board game league. I managed to setup the league, divisions, removed the financial aspect, I think I have everything setup but one thing...I can't find the way to assign players to their teams....I don't want to do a draft because players already have their teams assigned...

How do I manually assign players to teams??

thanks

Really good basic question.

I'm considering getting into OOTP and I'm a little put-off by the game's complexity. Huge step up from Stormfront's Oldtime Baseball, eh.

First, if you have everything the way you want it, create a Back-up. That's good to do because if you realize you forgot something, you don't have to start from scratch.

What kind of players are they? Historical? Current? Are they in the game currently or not? If in the game currently, go to your Manager's Office/Options and turn on "Commissioner" mode. Then go to a player that is on the wrong team. Go to the Player Editor tab. Look halfway down the left-hand side and you can assign them to any league and then the drop down beneath that will let you assign them to any team. Done and done.

If historical, it is more steps as you need to choose a year to import them and then follow the import instructions in the manual. If you need help doing that, the community can help there too, just let folks know if that help is needed.

To manually assign players to teams, you first have to enter Commissioner Mode by going to Manager Options > Play In Commissioner Mode and checking the box. Next, go to the player profile of the player you want to assign, click the Editor tab, scroll down, and on the left-hand side there should be an option for "Team Information, Select new Team". This will allow you to assign the player to any team you want.

That was my first thought too, but I suspect that what might work even better for the OP would be to export/edit/import the rosters via the Lg Settings > Lg Actions > Import/Export functions. That way he could just enter all the names via spreadsheet and save a bunch of clicking on buttons. Depending on how his current data is set up, he could even copy and paste or use a formula to populate all the rosters at once instead of creating them one at a time. I'd definitely try that first as it would save a lot of time.

Interesting. Old Time Baseball is what I played before getting OOTP.

To the OP, I hope you won’t be daunted by the complexity of OOTP. That universe of options is out there; but you only have to worry about your corner of it. You can save the rest for later, when you become addicted and ambitious! I think of OOTP in terms of the way I use Word or Excel or PowerPoint. Those programs have a rich variety of options; but all I need to do is customize my screen for the work I actually do. And yes, since we all make mistakes or learn better ways of doing things, save your sims and back them up, so you can go back and start over, if needed. The trial and error can actually be fun, learning what a tweak or change can do to influence play.
