How does High Work Ethic, Intelligence, and Leader help?

I read in a few places that having players who are high in these personality categories helps other players on their team develop. However, someone just told me that isn't necessarily true. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Does it actually help other players develop, or does it only help that particular player reach his potential (or higher)?

Work ethic affects your player's development and performance (and probably injuries, but I play with those off). You might get decent production out of someone with bad work ethic, but I've come to treat it as a red flag for draftees/free agents.

Intelligence is like that and more. I don't know how it actually figures into the game's engine but I'm sure it does. I'll take a chance on a guy that the game says is "slow to catch on" or whatever, sometimes.

Leadership does all kinds of things. Many catchers have it, so I assume it has some effect in catcher performance. Anyway for now there doesn't seem to be any downside to having multiple "captain" guys on the team. They make the team play better, and more importantly offset the selfish/disruptive players. When you see a player unhappy because of the "disruptive influences" on the team, he's telling you you need another captain. Or you need to send the jerk down to the Jerkwater League

If I recall correctly one of the players ran a test and players with Low Work Ethic had shorter careers.

I've noticed that when i have a Captain on my team, my team seems to play better then when i just have a leader or 2. While my team last year was in 1st, we we're struggling last year. After i traded for Yogi berra, my team finished 47-16. Now i do have a Captain on this team too and i am 14-11 tied for 1st. i need a prankster. It's nice to have a balanced team.

Seems I remember seeing that intelligence is an indicator of whether or not a pitcher can learn a new pitch.

From what I've seen, work ethic tends to relate more to the length of a player's career. This doesn't necessarily mean that the player is always great, but they may stick around in the minors as an injury replacement in their later years.

Intelligence does seem to help pitcher learn pitches, or at least it seems that way, especially with the changeups. I usually won't draft a player with a minimally rated changeup unless they have high intelligence. I had heard somewhere that intelligence helps with learning new positions too, but I've also heard that adaptability helps with that, so I'm not sure what it helps with positionally.

You definitely want to try and have a captain on your squad if possible. It really helps when the team is underperforming. Having a couple of extra leaders can help as well. I've even had teams with 3 captains and even when the team is doing badly, the overall morale stays pretty good.

Just my experience; I'm sure others may have seen different things happen.

I think Intelligence rolls over to encompass learning new positions, too

IIRC Work Ethic and Intelligence (and a lot of other things, like your manager ability and the hitting/pitching coach) also help players break out of slumps. Overall I don't think OOTP players have quite the same level of ups and downs that real life players do but slumps are a thing and so is breaking out of them.
