Whit Merrifield Royals to Blue Jays
This is a strange trade because Merrifield refused to get vacinated for Covid 19 ..... Him and 10 other Royals missed the series in Toronto .
??????????

The Jays have actually been rumoured to have been interested in a # of unvaccinated players. The latest to fall through was Benintendi and that was a real head scratcher. I don't get it.
Tapia, usually their 4th outfielder, has played well, better than I think anyone could have expected, and people keep saying they need to replace him. Granted, his skillset is exactly what I like so I'm not exactly objective, but he's plenty good enough as a 4th. Anyway, I wondered, are there special rules we're not aware of like if you play for the Jays you don't need to get vaxxed? Or is there a secret list of players who aren't vaxxed, but would get it if they were traded to the Jays? I don't know, it's bizarre. I am curious to see how soon we'll see Merrifield play in Toronto. I'd love it if Merrifield rebounds to what he was a few years ago, but my guess is he's just injury insurance. That, and a pinch-running SB threat as the new manager seems to like to play aggressively. I'm down with that.

I think Merrifield (or maybe other Royals) were quoted as saying if they were dealt to a competitor, they'd think about getting the vaccine. I have to imagine the Jays had those chats. They're not home for another week and a half, so even if he only got it today, he'd only miss like one series. And he may even have gotten it last week knowing that he'd be dealt.
