Huh?!?!??!

During free agency, I was bidding for Lance Berkman. I was up to around 12,000,000. Then, I was outbid, and now Berkman doesn't like my organization. 2 Questions/comments
1. Is this a bug? or could it happen?
2. Name one player who would ever turn down a bidding war to raise his salary over 12,000,000.

Well, I think there are plenty of real life examples of players who will accept relatively less money to play in a location or for a team that appeals more to them, for whatever reason.

In your case maybe Berkman had a floor amount that he was looking for but once he got above the floor he then had the luxury of picking his preferred spot. I think it could happen.

I wonder what % of people would do this. At first thought, you'd probably be stupid to turn down more money, especially when you're talking about millions of $s. But then you might think that playing in Miami is more to your liking than say Buffalo, or maybe you figure for some reason or another you'll be more successful for a longer time and in the long run make more money because of it if you play for the team that offers less. Who knows, but I wonder how many players go through that thought process.

Juan Gonzalez -- turned down 15 million with the Tigers to sign with Cleveland for 10 million and then Texas for 11 million.

It's not a bug, but a very desirable feature. Very important to add to the challenge of solo gamers.

Juan Gone and Griffey Jr. are good examples.

When Maddux first signed with the Braves he had turned down the Yankees(who had offered more cash).

Let's remember... less is subjective... maybe some players do still have perspective.

Yes, I loved his quote about how he turned down more money because the Braves were in a better position to win a title. I know this is all hindsight, but what a bad move! He could've had more money AND 3 more rings.

Only THREE more rings...? Man, it seems like the Spankees have won it more than 4 times in the past few years. Funny how things look jilted thru the eyes of ho-hum redundancy.

Didn't the Cubs also run him out because he wouldn't respond to their deadline?
