OOTP22 Has Improved Animation

Just purchased OOTP22 and played my first game.

Animation is much improved over OOTP21.

Only played one game... I saw none of the bad glitches that were in OOTP21.

Hope the outfielders running through the fences and the weird angles of fly balls have been fixed.

The animation is much smoother.

Kudos to Matt Arnold and the guys that work in that area of the game.

Sample size. Wait until you see the pitcher teleport off of the mound to field a bunt!

Yes there are still some fluky ani's, but it's way better than it was even from March when it was released. I'm sure they are still working hard on these ani's. Who knows exactly how many they have adjusted and how many more there are to do. Watching the double play is cool. I've seen base runners fall down on a hit a run if the batter hits a fly ball. As long as they are progressing and not regressing, I am cool with that.

Runners still run through walls once in a while, but not as often as they used to.
Animation seems to get better with every patch. There's still some slow Mickey Mouse / Bugs Bunny throws that are quite amusing.

Yep, small sample... I jump the gun... I just saw a player run through the wall again.
Also the infield flies are still taking strange trajectories just like OOTP21.
I really thought these type of glitches would be fixed in OOTP22.
Must be difficult to do.

So far, OOTP22 might be somewhat better than OOTP21.
but not a whole lot so far... I may have watch 10 games.

The stadiums do look nice... I like the HP action view.

But the minor league stadium I use for my leagues in OOTP21 has a much nicer background on it with trees and fields... OOTP22 minor league stadium just has an orange glow background... wonder why they changed it.

Sorry, I was expecting OOTP22 animation to be much better than OOTP21... hope they have improved other game areas.

Has anybody seem an infielder tag a runner out instead of throwing out the batter at first base... or instead of forcing the baserunner out at second?

Has anybody seen the third baseman tag third base when runners are on first and second base instead of making a throw to second or first base?

I have seen the shortstop, second baseman and first baseman just touch the bag for the out unassisted in OOTP21.

It is a lot smoother overall than last years version especially double plays where the shortstop just holds the ball more often than throwing to first.

This one was pretty cool that I just saw. Second and third, no outs. Batter lines one back at the pitcher who stabs it and turns and fires to third for the DP. First time for that one. Nice. And the pitcher did not teleport.

Hi, Eugene I have seen rundowns where they either make it or they are out
I have seen the batter storm the mound after getting pinged. You are right the animations are much improved. It gives us old guys reason to stick around. It is a pleasure to watch all the changes over the years. Like you I think the problems that keep hanging around are hard to fix....Rick

It's always been difficult to find a right fielder who can make that throw to third base from behind a fruit cart in a farmers' market six blocks away.

LOL I was down late in a playoff game and got frustrated at how many SB the opposition got. I hit a couple of batters which started a brawl. Got a big kick out of the PbP.

IMO v22 3D is a big step forward from v21. Glitches remain as they will in every version.

I think you're jumping the gun again thinking 22 is only somewhat better than 21.

I agree with RchW here. Some glitches remain but there is a whole lot of improvement too.

Today I had runners on 1st and 2nd, with 1 out. Groundball to third, third baseman stepped on third for the out and threw to first but the runner beat the throw. In 21 I did see the 5U-3 double play but never the runner beating the throw at first. But it's more than just additional plays, like this one and the ones others have mentioned, its also the quality of the movements being improved.

For v22 stadiums were the priority upgrade for playing out games, and they do look fantastic. My hope is player models and movements are the priority for v23 and they get them up to the standard of the new stadiums. It might not be "The Show" but it will be way more than I ever imagined OOTP would be.

The new cameras in the patch are from my game. I sent them to Matt and he liked them enough to include. My suggestion to you is to enable the dynamic camera, and uncheck the 1b line and 3b line cameras so they're not used as dynamic cameras. They're cool to use for HR replays among other things but are a bit too zoomed in for "live" dynamic views. With them disabled the game will tend to select the "behind the dugout" camera in their place and you get some nice visuals "live".

Like player movement\models the dynamic camera still has some glitches, IE for me, mostly not getting the OF catching the ball in view on all plays. The DC is still a bit of a work in progress but, at least for me, I'd say 80-90% of the time it works quite well.

I would also suggest trying my settings from this thread..

Just some of my thoughts, you may not agree with me on the level of improvement and that's ok too.

Sweed, I jumped the gun and was out of line... I'm guilty of judging by small sample... maybe I also was expecting too much as well.

I appreciate all of the comments from everyone... my criticisms were off-base.

My apologies to Matt Arnold and the animation development team.

Really looking forward to playing my leagues in OOTP22... the animation is way, way, way beyond anything that I ever thought OOTP would ever be.

You guys are right... it is smoother... and it will probably have fixed a lot of the glitches in the animation.

I saw something new recently... with the bases loaded, the catcher picked up a ball right in front of home plate and stepped on home plate for the force out... that was really neat.

Looking forward to other treats and surprises in store for me in the animation.

Thanks for the camera view info and advice... much appreciate it.

I try not to complain about the animations, but I saw something new in a recent game. A runner was rounding third the cut-off man was 3/4 of the way down the third baseline. The throw goes to the cut-off man, I can see two options, Tag the runner himself, or throw to the catcher for an easy out. Either way I'm out of the inning without giving up the run. Instead, he decided to count the stitches on the ball, pick something out of his teeth apply SPF 80 or whatever. In other words, he just held onto the ball.

After the update I saw a nice play. I had runners on 1st. and 2nd. with one out. Grounder to third, and get this, he steps on 3B and throws to first. My batter beat the throw. Nice to see.
