See! We told you this all along!
Do you think if the NFL players make it thru this season relatively healthy and dont show much rust, this will really solidify the "we told you we dont need 4 preseason games" argument.
It's kinda eerie this has happened as NFL fans have been screaming for y-e-a-r-s that preseason was too long. Thoughts? |

Preseason isn't meant for the fans to enjoy. The games were mostly important for back of the roster players trying to make the final few roster spots to get game experience on film (for either their current team or someone else).

Eh, not really...almost all of those guys get cut. Pre-season games are about the NFL getting more ticket sales.

Preseason exists / existed because at one point in time the league thought it needed it and hadn’t faced any kind of crisis point requiring them to dump it. Now we’ve had that even and... who knows what will happen next year. I’m guessing we’ll have it again but with like 2 games instead of 4.

I always thought the reason for any preseason no matter the sports was to get the rust off and get into "game shape." Yes, its an opportunity to weed out the good from the not as good, which needs to happen at some point. And yes, its another opportunity to sell tickets and make more money, which I think is perfectly okay to do. But I've always thought it was there to get the players ready for the season. Because no matter how much practice, etc that players do in the off-season, there is nothing like playing games to re-hone skills.

I haven't watched much football so far. How are the games going? Do teams look rusty? Or are they playing well enough that dropping the preseason might seem like a viable option?

There have been a sluice of season ending injuries, part of which could be credited to conditioning, and the other part could be credited to defensive players not installing proper tackle techniques in time for the season.

Ya, it might be too soon to attribute this weekend's SEI's to the lack of a preseason. Just like it was probably jumping the gun when everyone pretty much saw the MLB season as good as cancelled when Covid hit a few teams early in the season.

the preseason has nothing to do with getting established players conditioned. you think saquon barkley played preseason games last year?
what matters more is the training camp time |
