City Nicknames
Hi guys i've been running a fictional league in some form or fashion for several years, using fictional cities named for real cities.
For instance i have a team called the Steeltown Gunners, that's obviously Pittsburgh. And Alamo City is San Antonio. Well i'm looking for some new fictional cities. So do you guys know of any other city nicknames i could use? i think i got plenty of some of the major cities like New York (3 teams), Detroit (2 teams) and LA (2 teams). Also i'll take fictional cities from cartoons and comic books; like Metropolis and Gotham City. And also, names for major areas of the map. Like the Great Northwest (Washingon and Oregon) and Four Corners (Southwest area where Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona come together). Last edited by Dark Horse; 03-26-2003 at 11:39 PM. |

Wow Crackpott thanks! That solves that.
And, by the way, i'm a big Laura Prepon fan, too. And Sixfour good call on Shelbyville! i'll definitely use that one. Anymore cartoon/comic book cities out there? |

baja
I think it would be cool to put a team out in Baja, California. It's not even part of the United States and pretty deserted but maybe you could make a vacation getaway/casino/baseball park deal out there
![]() I would recommend the Silicon Valley for San Jose, CA too. |

Looking at those links... some interesting nicknames... e.g:
St. Paul, MN, where I was born "Moscow on the Mississippi" WTF? I've never heard that in my 23 years here.... is it because of the weather? San Francisco, CA "Baghdad by the Bay"

Victoria, B.C., Canada - Little England
heh. Never heard it called that exactly, but it fits (it's full of rich Brits). Some others are: "God's Waiting Room" because of all the old people there, and "City of Gardens" because of the amazing Butchart Gardens.Vancouver, B.C., Canada - Gastown Gastown is a small part of town. I wouldn't nickname the entire city that. A much more common nickname for Vancouver is Terminal City, named that because it was the last point on the trans Canada railway.

Using fictional cities is fun. I'm using fictional cities in my fictional Metro Leagues. It took a little time to get used to the cities. However, one thing that enhanced my enjoyment was writing a profile for each city. That helped bring each city to life and gave each it's own personality. Now I see them just as I see any real city.
Here's a list of the 12 fictional cities that are currently being used in my Metro Leagues... Gotham Metropolis Delta Roxford Cape City Oakdale Easton St. Cruze Townsville Rivermount Eyre City You can read a profile of each of these cities at my site by clicking on Ballpark Tours. (A link can be found in my sig below.) Here are the four expansion cities that will complete the circuit in the near future... Market City River Heights Dunberry Sterling If you're thinking of using some of the comic book cities here's a map of where all of the DC comic fictional cities are located... http://www.thekryptonian.com/comics/cities.htm Here are a few other fictional cities from comic books... Paragon City Santa Marta Empire City Last edited by DreamTeams; 03-27-2003 at 02:06 PM. |

I always name my team Buffalo Brigands.
Kind of an offshoot of the Buffalo Bandits - a National Lacrosse League team we've had in town for years.
