Friends league F2P

This post isn't meant to argue F2P vs P2W. Please don't go that route.

My question is as follows. If I made my friends list complete with only players that are F2P. If all 30 people had the same 30 friends and everyone selected friends list for league placement, would we all be in a league with F2P players?

Right now, i've seen the trend of putting F2P in your team name to represent F2P. I just started doing that as well but would like to know if that friends list option would work? Thanks all.

It can work but it’s a lot of work and you need a lot of people interested and religious about keeping up with their friends list Sunday nights. See Orcin’s leagues - there’s a waiting list and still it’s work to keep up on. Keep in mind you all have to be at the same league level and you’ll lose 2-4 to promotion and 4 to relegation every week.

yep... "easy" part is the initial setup... hard part is worrying about keeping those spots completely filled after pro/rel.... but it's definitely been fun (think my ship is quickly sinking this season in diamond though, so might be my last hurrah... or I try to scare up some gold level people to build out the lower tiers.... we'll see how things pan out with v20 just around the corner)

Here's what I have learned...

1. Of course, the league placement setting must be "use friends list". The setting doesn't always stick. You have to "submit" after changing the setting, then it is best to log out and log in again to see if it is still correct. This has bit us more than once. Someone always forgets or doesn't get it to stick. Remember, all thirty people must get this right, and there are new people every week because of promotion/relegation.

2. It is critical that everyone in your scheme has no friends other than the people that you want. It is equally critical that all friend relationships are reciprocal - just friending someone does nothing, they must also friend you. If one person misses this, you will have people that you don't want.

3. It doesn't seem to be necessary for all 30 people to have all of the other 29 as friends. The more reciprocal relationships the better, but it also appears that one reciprocal relationship can drag someone into your league if there are no better choices. That's why #2 is so critical.

4. The promotion/relegation system means that your friends lists have to be adjusted each week on Sunday night in order to keep your league exclusive. That is really hard to pull off. First, you need extra people to come in and replace those that must leave and second, you need to have everyone available to make the changes in a brief time window. It hasn't worked for us yet and we have tried three times. Murphy's Law says that the person that gets in unexpectedly will be a huge whale and totally dominant your league for that week. Of course, he will be gone next week, but another will take his place.

Good luck if you try it. The friends list system is not designed to create exclusive leagues. It is designed to allow a few people to stay together each week. Perhaps one day the developers will give us the ability to create "invitation-only" leagues, but the existing system is not the ideal way to achieve that goal. It is possible though, and the fourth time might be the charm for us.
