All-star selection never played a single game all season, plus a question

Thought this was kind of crazy, did a quick search and didn't see anyone else mention it before, so I thought I'd share. Playing a fictional players-in-historical league setting type thing.

In my 1949 season, I was browsing the all star selections, and I noticed a reliever with no stat line make the team with an (injured) designation. Looked closer, and this guy Kevin Pruitt somehow made the All-Star team on the back of his previous (pretty good) season, as he got surgery for bone chips during Spring Training. He hadn't played a single game prior to the All-Star game.

I thought maybe it was a "must have one guy per team" issue, but his teammate made the team as a starter.

Pretty weird.

On to the questions: if I wanted to see which reliever has the record for something like, most WAR in a single season, is there a way to see that? I tried looking at the historical index page, and I can track by this season, or the previous season, but I wanted to include all seasons, and have it consider individual seasons, not career numbers.

Also, is there a way to have the Season/Career records track more than just the statistics it currently tracks? Like, if I wanted it to keep track of the top 30 or 40 single season/career records for BABIP, could I... I don't know, edit one of the files to tell the game to track that for me? Thanks!

Oh, also: does the AI make injury replacement selections?

My guess is that he was the One Player per Team selection then the SP was put in as an injury replacement. When was Kawamoto injured?

Also, I assume you have popularity checked as having a factor in All-Star decisions

Most likely got in because his popularity is through the roof.

Kawamoto was injured on 4/29.

I believe I do have popularity checked, yeah.

That makes sense. One of the weird things that happens, I guess.

But he only has one good year under his belt, and one mediocre year, you know? I'm not sure why unless he got a bunch of storyline boosts.

That's also why I want to be able to see WAR (or whatever stat) by player category, and then the top 10 or 20 statistical years. Was his previous season so good as to make him a star? Or was it something else, his winning personality?

Like other said, it's popularity + each team needing one all-star. Turn down that setting from "high" to medium and you won't see this or don't require each team to have an all-star.

I think the popularity rating is random when a player is generated, so he could have been Extremely Popular from the minute he was created. I have seen guys with awful ratings that are Extremely Popular when they are drafted or discovered and did not realize it until I decide to let them walk as a minor league free agent or release them during one of minor league purges of "dead weight".

well, the single season BABIP might be a tough one, but you should be able to use a custom view or filter to 'see' most other things in game.

list all players, include retired etc... then work on various filters.

imo the statistic page should have a dropdown box for Year. we should be able to look up any year in history on that page. this is one area where ootp is all over the road like a drunk driver. some stats over here, some over there... oh and you have to export to be able to do anything extra and make your own spreadhseet over there. we can't even sort in numerous areas... i can't explain how simple it is to sort in any computer language... #'s or special characters included. they are not a problem or should not be.
