Hey folks!

We just received our official Metacritic rating for OOTP 17, it's a blistering 94 so far! However, we are missing user reviews there So, if you have a minute, could you please rate OOTP 17 over there?

I have been wondering something about Metacritic for several years now. Why do the only use very few critic reviews, when there are many many more available?

Done: If you are seriously considering a baseball simulator... there is only one real option. OOTP has been the king of baseball simulation since Puresim went the way of the dodo. Don't even joke by suggesting baseball mogul. If you are a true baseball fan... this is a yearly must purchase.

Done.

The gold standard for baseball sims. The purchase includes all 29,000 players to ever play in the major leagues. This year's version also adds the real stats of every minor leaguer in history for the past few decades, all without having to pay extra for season disks, roster sets, etc. The game is officially licensed by MLB, includes 3D play when playing out individual games. Also includes the ability to play any historical matchup ever -- to decide whether the 1927 Yankees, 1976 Reds, 1929 Cubs or your favorite team were the best in history. Can customize this so specifically that you can manage every game or be the GM executing the front-office deals all the way to the frustrations of an owner who won't give you enough money for free agents, forcing you to use all of your best skills to recruit the best prospects and build for the future on a shoestring budget.

Would have been a 10 until recently uncovered issues... now it's a 1.

Ouch - the "1" review over there is harsh...

So in summary, you're basically saying: 'Turns out that a nearly perfect game I'd rate a 10 has a couple of bugs that were so small it took me weeks after release to find (and that I couldn't even be bothered to report as bugs in the proper place so that they could be fixed) and weren't immediately patched yesterday, so I'll rate it a 1 instead.'

Really? I don't even have any words...

Metacritic hates OOTP, but critics love it

Because in order for a game to be listed on the Top PC games list, you need a certain # of critic ratings to be shown, and Metacritic doesn't want some dumb(obviously i don't think its dumb) game being #1 on their list, which it would be if they added more critic reviews

That's one theory.

I have a couple:

1) They don't actively seek out reviews, they wait for sites to submit them and if they don't submit them then they don't put them up.

2) A site has to pay to get their review up. Metacritic does link to their sites after all.

I once emailed them about listing some games on their site and they were pretty dismissive of the request. I have no ties to the games, I just wanted to see them listed so people could post/check reviews of them. Yeah, they were older games, but they were still for sale and I was considering buying them. Their response amounted to, and I'm paraphrasing, we're not interested in including them, if you want ratings of those games, just go to our sister site gamerankings.com. I didn't reply, but I just thought, "wow, okay, that's not very inclusive". I like metacritic as it's great to quickly read a bunch of reviews, but I wish they were more interested in being more comprehensive.
