MLB Manager vs OOTP

Hey, guys I've poured in ~500 hours to OOTP 17 and absolutely love it. Love it so much I'd like to be able to get a fix when I'm on the go and can't boot up my laptop. How does MLB Manager compare? Is it waaaay stripped down? I don't really delve too much into historical or international leagues, but love the deep stat tracking and development of the MLB quick starts. Will I also enjoy MLB Manager or is it a very basic version.

Also is there any way to have your files active in both versions? As in playing the same universe on my phone and my computer? I doubt it, but never hurts to ask.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's pretty stripped down. Still fun, but nowhere near as in-depth as OOTP.

And as you figured, saved games are not compatible between the computer and phone.

Honest opinion... MLB Manager is not worth buying. It is difficult to use the interface and there are too many missing screens (for example, there is no screen to see your salaries). It might be fun for someone that has not played the PC version, but it only served to frustrate me.

I also cannot play mlb manager. it's very cumbersome trying to navigate the different screens. As some have said above, it's probably fine for a very casual fan but it's completely different from the full game experience

Glad I asked. Guess that's a no buy. I'll stick to OOTP full version.

Thanks all.

I like MLB manager. It's stripped down, but if you like playing out all of your games there is a lot to enjoy. It's the not the best for siming large chunks or seasons at a time.

you can get salaries of players easy enough .... I prefer OOTP to mlb manager.... The MLB manager will still do the job if you want a different challenge

MLB manager reminds me of earlier versions of OOTP. Much simpler of a game. And I agree. If you like to play out the games, it's great for that. It is definitely worth the buy.

One by one, filling out a spreadsheet as you go, is the only way. That's very cumbersome and time consuming. Certainly not easy.

I dunno what you're talking about, it's very easy to see players salaries.

I think MLB manager is great. Yes it could use some additions, but for someone who doesn't have time to sit and play ootp, and someone who always has their phone with them, I love the game.

You can't compare it to ootp, you have to just enjoy it on its own.

I'm not sure what you mean... melky Cabrera for instance next year will make the same 14.5 million.

If your looking for arbitration estimates you can click the player and it will give you their estimated arbitration salary.

Some players are signed for next year, some are signed for multiple seasons, some are not signed at all for next year... do you know the sum of all of those contracts for all of the future seasons without a calculator?

Yep, and then you can click all of the players that might be arbitration eligible, and get all of their salaries for each year to which you are theoretically committed, and then you can combine that with all of the players that are on renewable contracts and all of the players that have committed contracts, and you can put all of that information into a spreadsheet, and then (30-45 minutes later) you will have the salaries screen which is available with one click in the full version of the game.

I am not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. This is a basic screen from the full version of the game. I am surprised that so many people have apparently not seen it or don't use it. I use it constantly to determine what my salary commitment is going forward, and which contracts might become problematic in offering extensions down the road. It is impossible to do this in the mobile game without a separate spreadsheet, and that is simply too much hassle.

This is only of many drawbacks to this stripped-down version of the game, which is also awkward to use and does not supply historical seasons without a large investment. My opinion only, you don't have to agree.

It's not that I don't agree.... I just don't have the time or accessibility to play the full version. So I love having this version on my phone and I love the game, it's all I know.

Of course if you're going to compare it head to Head with ootp it's gonna get crushed, there's no doubt about it.

But I have played hundreds of seasons over the years and have never needed to calculate my salary commitments 4 years down the line. That level of detail is unneeded in this version.

That is the entire point of the thread. The original post asked for a comparison of MLBM to OOTP. I tried to answer the OP's question.

Sure..... I'm just trying to give some love to MLB manager, because I do love the game.

I briefly toyed with the idea of buying MLBM. I'm glad I didn't. Seeing the phrase "stripped down" being used repeatedly to describe this product is enough for me to know that I'll never want to play it. In fact, if push came to shove, I don't even think I could go back and play an older version of OOTP.

I've simply grown too accustomed to having all the features and options OOTP currently has to even consider toying with another baseball management sim. The instant I wanted to do something or set something up that OOTP permits that this game doesn't I would stop playing it.
