GM Career Progression
I just started playing OOTP 15 yesterday and I really enjoy it. I like making a GM and starting as unemployed. I have found that building a career as a GM is not very realistic. For example, I was able to rebuild a team in the Italian League from last place to 3rd place (not the best). Then, later after that season I went to Available Jobs and one of the open jobs was for the SF Giants. I just thought it seemed unrealistic to go from an IBL general manager to an MLB GM after one season.
It would be great if for 2016, the game had more realistic career progression for GM's. Please let me know what you guys think about this idea? |

I'd love to see some sort of dedicated career mode, both for players and GMs, added to the game.

I don't think the game is there or even designed to do that. It's a solid idea, but for years we've all been using our imaginations for stuff like that. Seems safer than a mode for it.

Oh, yeah, I don't think the game is designed for it, and I don't see it happening. Nor would I ever expect it to happen. I'd like to see it, but it's a pipe dream and I'm 100% ok with it staying that way.

I just think it would be a cool feature to have. Maybe even if they made a whole new game based on OOTP. Career mode is fun with players, but I don't know if it's been done with gm's. There would be a lot of possibilities like media interviews, dialogue with owners, etc... it would be nicer than using your imagination.

I have no interest in the roleplaying aspect of the game. To be clear I mean, interviews, canned dialogue, manufactured crises that occur with too much frequency etc. I may be a minority but for me the game is an escape not a analogue of my work life with all of the stress of "playing the organizational game" that occur in real life. People say, "just turn it off", but my response is that massive amounts of development time will be spent creating non-value added fluff at the expense of baseball play and other in-game enhancements. For that reason as a customer I will always argue against the FM theatrical model (because that's what it is). It bores me. Every version there is a laundry list of baseball and gameplay issues that seem to get shunted aside for fluff. What's wrong with using imagination? ![]() YMMV

I understand. I think sometimes when scenarios are made up for role playing in a game they can be repetitive once you've played a few in game seasons. It's hard to get a role playing game to work well.
And there's nothing wrong with using your imagination, sometimes it's nice when those kinds of things are added into the game, but it has to work well and it depends on the game. |
