OOTP 14 will be on Steam - thanks to all who voted!

As Peregrine noted in his post on this forum, OOTP 14 will move from Greenlight to Steam. Valve let us know that yesterday, and we're working on the paperwork and doing all the other things necessary to get the game on Steam.

We wanted to offer heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for the game and who encouraged others to do the same.

We don't know all the details yet, but I will update this post with more information as we receive it. In the meantime, Andreas said today that the PC version of the game will be out first, with Mac and Linux following soon after. And as we've said before, we'll provide Steam keys for those who have already bought the game and who want to add it to their Steam libraries. [ EDIT - Request your Steam key here: http://ootpsupport.com/steamkey/steamkey.php ]

Customers can select where they purchased OOTP and enter either the eSellerate order ID and email (if purchased in-game or in our web store) or the serial number (if purchased on Amazon, IMG, GMG or GG). The system will look for a matching license record and assign a Steam key to it. If the customer enters the same license data again, the same Steam key will be displayed. Currently we have 850 Steam keys in the database. I can add more if needed.

Also, this doesn't mean that OOTP will be exclusive to Steam. If you want to buy it there, great. If not, that's fine too. We realize some people love Steam and others won't touch it, like a batter watching a 3-0 pitch sail by. We get it, and it's all good - We're doing this because it will introduce a whole new audience to OOTP, and even if just a few percent of them take the plunge, that will add up to a lot more sales for us, which means more resources down the road to add new features and even more games.

Speaking of more games: FHM is still on Greenlight, so we are still encouraging everyone to vote for the game and get their friends to do the same. Steam Greenlight :: Franchise Hockey Manager

Thanks, all!

- Brad

A hearty "well done" to Brad, and also to all of us little guys who also helped make this happen.

Brad: when you set this up with Steam, please please please arrange for one of their wonderful Steam Workshops for mods to be set up for the game. It will add tremendous value and will increase sales.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Agreed -- as a new buyer, I'm happy to see the game coming to my favorite platform. Congrats are due to the team!

Having Workshop compatibility would be fantastic -- I've already been tinkering around with making jerseys and logos, and I'd love to be able to share and see others' in one easy-to-use place, as well.

Great news. I'll be picking this up as soon as it's ready.

I'm assuming this will be Steam play enabled.

Great to hear. Can't wait for my Steam key.

I hope FHM can make it too. I've been telling as many people as I can to upvote it on Greenlight!

Thanks, all! And let's also make sure we thank Markus, Andreas, Jeff, Daniela, and Sebastian for their work too. Andreas will be handling getting the game uploaded to Steam, signing paperwork, and all that stuff. I'm sure he will look into Steam Workshop, since it's obviously the perfect way to showcase all our great fan-made mods.

As has been said, Steam workshop would be very helpful.

And, since the mods make the game much more attractive, a Workshop will increase Steam sales.

I'm Steam-neutral, but if it means more sales, which means OOTP might be able to get another programmer, and put all those great features we want it, that's definitely good news.

Even if you can't swing the Workshop at the same time, just a mention that you are actively working on it and what things it would offer (logos, jerseys, ballparks, fictional team stuff, etc.) would go a long way towards enticing the fence-sitters out there.

Great work and congrats to the crew!

Excellent!!!

Any news on what this means for OOTP 15? Will it also be available on Steam or will the whole Greenlight process start over again?

They have told us they will put OOTP 15 on Steam too, per Markus' conversation with his Valve contact the other day. Of course, there's no guarantee that every version of the game will be there, since sales will need to support it from year to year, but hopefully that won't be a problem.

Thanks all.

Smart! Not only is it nice to existing customers, but it'll show non-OOTP Steam users just how many of us do like it to encourage them to take the plunge too.

I hope that OOTP and Steam work on multiplayer in the future, both league play and head to head.
