Welcome page

When first starting OOTP 10 a sort of welcome page came up on top of the actual game. It had 3 or 4 things on it, one of watch was a link to watch getting started videos. I unchecked this page and wish I hadnt.

Is there way to make this page come up again?

Is there really no way to make this page appear again?

I'm trying to find it for you, but I'm not having much luck. I couldn't find it in the game prefs or the game setup so I thought it must be in the config files, but I can't find it there either. I'm sure it's something really easy like simply changing a 0 to a 1 somewhere.

Sorry, I looked all over, but I can't find it. My guess is it may be in user.dat, but that's not something you can easily edit. Maybe someone else will come along and be able to tell you, but in the meantime, it basically has buttons to the online manual, video tutorials and forums, all of which you can otherwise find on the main screen or the "?" menu once in the game. Other than that the only things you should keep in mind is it reminds you that the game is extremely customizeable and you can always access the in-game help by pressing F1.

Like kq76 in Post #3, I haven't tried this, but I think it might be the switch you're looking for. From your start menu select Run. Type in %appdata% and that'll bring up a list of folders, one of which is OOTP. Select Config folder, then Select App and open with Notepad. One of the entries there is Help Dialogue. Change the 0 to a 1 and save. As I said, I didn't test it, but it sounds like the switch. Be prepared to reinstall or simply change the setting back if that doesn't do what you want it to do. Either way, let us know how it goes.

Edit: On the other hand, I'm thinking those options are on the lower right hand corner of the main screen where you Continue, Load Game, etc.. Are you saying those options are no longer there? That'd be a different story altogether. Let me know.

Edit#2 : No, you're right. It was only in the original help dialogue screen, Take Me To the Videos, and not a part of that main screen menu, so I'm hoping the 0 to 1 change is your fix. Sorry for the confusion.

I thought help_dialog_mode might have been it, but this is what the online manual says about it:

Quote:
Sets whether the in-game help opens using the in-game browser, or your computer's default browser. (Values: 0=OOTP browser 1=external browser) This value can also be changed from the Game Preferences screen.
It's curious they would name it that instead of something like browser_mode though.

Well, call me puzzled then. It has to be a startup setting, like Trace mode, etc.. I have to believe it's an easy fix, just not one I've been asked before. So, good question! We'll get the answer as soon as possible.

Thanks everybody for looking for me.

I had already tried the one switch that was mentioned and discovered, as one poster said, that it changed the what using F1 opened as.

Guess I'll certainly be more careful about what I uncheck in the future.

Nah...this one's going to eat at me. We'll get you an answer. It may not be tonight, but we'll find out how.

Unless you modded skins or something, the easiest thing may be to uninstall and reinstall the game.
