Daytrader Baseball

I've been dorking around with a few concepts lately. I wanted a fast-sim league that I could eventually turn into an online concept league. But I needed to test the idea out for a while first.

So Daytrader Baseball is aimed at creating a league that moves super fast. We're talking a season a day fast.

The goal here? Put the best team together you can, quickly and then sim the season to see who the best team ends up being.

So far, here's my model:

Quote:
90-game season with 10 teams in a single-table league.
No playoffs. Best record wins the league. For now.
Talent only.
No free agency or financials at all.
I've played the first 3 years with minor leagues and a draft, but I'm going to ditch the minors going into the 4th season and probably the draft too.

Immediately after the draft, you get a week in-game to make trades and after that, team gets setup and we sim everything. Then, rinse wash and repeat again.

The idea? To get immersed in the players in the league. To figure out who the best players are, to find ways to put together the best team you can each year and all of that.

For the house rules part of it for me? The challenge will be that I don't get to draft my own team, that I'm beholden to whatever the AI does for me each year. And then during the trading period, I only get 5 trades that I can make and I can trade no more than 3 players in a deal, trade difficulty is on hard and heavily favor veterans.

I might do it a lot if it's challenging and interesting, if not, I'll stop. But I'm hoping it keeps my attention.

Here are the teams in the league:

Code:
			W	L	PCT	GB
Lancaster Red Roses	0	0	.000	-
Louisville Black Caps	0	0	.000	-
Peoria Distillers	0	0	.000	-
Pocatello Bannocks	0	0	.000	-
San Antonio Bears	0	0	.000	-
Shreveport Pirates	0	0	.000	-
Tuskegee Airmen 0	0	.000	-
Waterbury Finnegans	0	0	.000	-
Winnipeg Buffalos	0	0	.000	-
York White Roses	0	0	.000	-
I run the Tuskegee Airmen and the current year is 1891, in part because I knew I'd end up simming a ton of seasons and don't seem to be as partial to the 20xx years as some, so I'd like to delay getting there.

The Pocatello Bannocks won 3 straight titles before we decided to do the draft every year model.

I just took a look at my team for 1891 season and I have to say, that this dynasty is going to be more of a challenge than I thought. I mean, having talent off will make it hard to evaluate what I need and so, you're just basing it off talent and since the draft is done when the stats change for the year, you have to really only use talent and nothing else.

I might have to turn ratings on to be able to really make decent evaluations or else, it's completely random or I'm basing all of my decision on stars. I guess that's fine, but the idea here is more about present value and making swaps on that more than anything else.

I need to see how this year goes under the current model, because at present, it's just not that interesting.

I'm going to re-write this, but using a different model. I think the premise here is all wrong and I can do it better.
