Why are ratings so poor in the "Resulting Stats" section of the Ratings Editor?

Why are the "Resulting Stats" so poor in the Ratings Editor when you first begin a league?

The position players "resulting stats" as far as batting average are poor, usually from .185 to .250 for two-thirds of the players on a team.

Strikeouts are quite high with most players projected to strike out 100-150 times a season. I selected 1955 as the model year for stats. The range should be 25-100 strikeouts per season per player. Only three players in 1955 struck out over 100 times...Norm Zauchin of the Red Sox with 105, Wally Post of the Reds with 102 and Larry Doby of the Indians with 100. Mickey Mantle fanned 97 times that year.

To me the batting average range should be more like .220 to .275 for most of the players?

The manual doesn't say anything about "resulting stats". I was hoping it would explain the purpose of them. I would like to edit them to read normally, but am afraid I will foul things up...that this is the way Markus get the stats to be realistic, even though the "resulting stats" don't seem to be realistic.

The game generates some really bad players.

Why?

I only have a fictional major league with no minors.

Well it depends on your league settings too.

It even says "based on a modern, neutral Major League environment". So if your league totals/modifiers/PCM's are different, well, the stats it spits out aren't going to be as relevant.

Now, the .250 guy will still be one of the best relative to the rest of the league, but whether he hits .150 or .350 depends on your settings, IMO.

I think you are right. The "resulting stats" look like Modern Day stats with all of the strikeouts.

I had adjusted all of the league modifiers in test seasons to get what I wanted. I guess I did not figure the strikeouts well enough.

Fortunately my league stats looked pretty good at the end of the season except for strikeouts. Too many strikeouts. The range was 75-150 per player. 50 players struck out over 100 times out of 240 regulars.

Looks like I will have to make an adjustment in strikeouts.

Figuring out some way for the game to spit out stats in the current league context rather than a modern one would be a real boon to this type of thing.

You could do it in V6.51 and come pretty close.

However I edited all of the players' ratings in that league. There were no game-generated players.

Maybe that is why it worked so well (not meant to be sarcastic, just a fact).
