Complicated Interface?

I haven't really enjoyed a PC baseball game since Stormfront's Old Time Baseball from 1995. I tried High Heat, but couldn't get into it.

I've read that OOTP's interface is confusing. I don't get much joy from being confused.

If I want a PC baseball sim that is fun to play and lets me use old time ball players and even negro leaguers, where do I go?

try the demo and check it out, it seems to be a personal prefrence thing.

if you find the current version complicated then try the ootp6 demo, it is definatly not confusing.

OOTP is confusing because it offers so many features that it can be overwhelming at first. I made the mistake when I first started playing to try and utilize all of the new features. That got me into a lot of trouble and I became disinterested. OOTP is best taken in small increments, learning one new feature at a time. It took me months to perfect my first completely fictional league; by perfect, I mean that I was able to make it better and better by using more and more of the features OOTP offers.

I've come to the realization that OOTP isn't for everyone, but it really isn't that tough once you get used to it.

So, what you're saying is it's not something you can jump into right out of the box, so to speak?

Can you jump in right away with a quickstart league, or even a simple custom league? Sure. I think he's saying that you may not want to set up a giant, complex universe right away.

The interface itself is much like a web browser. If you can navigate around a message board, you should be fine at a basic level.

Does it have to be a career sim? If not, go w/ Action!PC baseball. It has some minimal animation to go along w/ the play-by-play, so it's actually fun to watch, stats are very realistic, its user-friendly, and there are lots of homebrews (including Negro Leagues).

Or of course, if you want to go the free route, the venerable Strategic Baseball Simulator by David Schmidt. Baseball Simulation. is something I find quite fun. Though it's entirely ungraphical for the most part. (Is ungraphical a word? It is now!)

I would also recommend OOTP6.5 or Puresim.

Or split the difference and go with the far deeper OOTP5.

Puresim is okay I guess but I would not recommend starting out with Ootp 6.5. Frankly, 6.5 isn't any easier to use for a new person and the newest puresim is a better game than the bug ridden 6.5:

OOTP is the best. Puresim has it's charms. SBS I find a lot of fun as you can do stuff I believe you can't do in OOTP. (Like have the same teams play each other 10,000 times.)

You can do that with OOTP 6.5 and previous (back to 5 at least, where I joined the fray) via the exibition game feature.

Speaking of which, I never used it, but I always wondered why that was taken out. If anything was a perfect intro to the game for a newbie, I'd imagine an exibition game would be it.
