Upper and lower year limits?

Does anyone know if there are upper and lower limits of any kind on the years in OOTP?

I ask because I'd like to start a far future league, and I don't want to inadvertently screw things up by setting it in 3001 or something.

Can't see that it would have an upper limit.....maybe 9999, because the year field would, I assume, be set to 4 digits.
(That might answer the lower limit query as well).

If you start at 3001 it would take you awhile to sim....
(OOTP9 might be out by then ......)

I'm currently in 2134 (from a league that started in 2010). No problems yet!

You can't start earlier than 1800, I presume the upper limit is 9999 as has been said. Someone should get a majorly powerful computer and sim 1800 to 9999 lol.

I think there are two different concepts at work, year and season. In most places the year is 4 bytes, but in others the season is 2 bytes. Therefore it's probably safe to assume that 65535 is the latest year possible.

Actually, I just ran a quick test and it appears that the upper limit is 3000. I tried starting a few new leagues. Any league I tried to start after 3000 turned the year to 3000. So I guess that is where time ends.

That's fine, as long as Baseball continues.

Well, that's good to know. I was primarily looking for where I could start the league, but it's nice to know you can actually start in 3000 and continue from there. I wonder if there is an upper sim limit. I mean, I'm sure there is one, but I wonder whether you can really sim until like the year 60,000 (assuming one had incredible amounts of hard drive space, a super-ultra-mega-fast machine, and a lot of time on one's hands). 57,000 years of history!

That would be a lot of stats...

There goes my idea for a long-term Hittite league. I wanted to expand into Babylonia, Egypt, Persia, Greece, Europe and Asia and finally the New World as it moved closer to modern times.

Thanks for that idea, though. I have been looking for a way to merge this game with Civilization IV somehow . . .

I'm going to hop over to civfanatics to see if anybody's modded a baseball civilization. I can see it now. Starting out as a wandering tribe of primitive ballplayers, knowing only of the game of baseball and using their bats, gloves, and cleats to fend off barbarians, by the 21st century they have advanced to world-conquering androids who, aside from crushing the football, hockey, and basketball civilizations, still find time for a game of baseball here and there. Yes!

Anybody know why those basketball video games list the shooting percentage as .599 if a player goes 3 for 5 or .699 for a player that goes 7 for 10?

I wanted to beta test 2007 with a 1066 William the Conqueror league but ran into this issue. So I beta-tested with an 1850s Charles Dickens league instead. I want William the Conqueror!

Negative dates would be kind of cool to include but heck... lots of fictional players, I bet, would like to start at the year 1.

That would be funny.

You know I am probably going to have a nightmare of having to come into the game bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. And have to pitch to star slugger Ugh the caveman (from the 60s Dinoboy cartoons).

It's all your fault guys.
