Bonds will boycott the HOF if asterisk ball is displayed

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I'm sure Bonds is tired of hearing about steroids at this point, but I kind of think he just needs to get over himself and not take it so seriously. I kind of wonder, with an attitude like this, will he even get elected right away?

It's not that I don't think he has the right to boycott it or that I don't recognize some level of justification for it, but I think it's just kind of melodramatic.

When I read the tiny Yahoo! headline below, I thought he was asking to be asterisked instead of the ball. Then I thought of the ample headroom that he would have for that . . .

The whole thing is silly and as a museum, the HoF shouldn't participate in this silliness anyway. Barry should've risen above it, but..that's not really his style.

So? If he doesn't want to show up, that's his choice. Personally, I'm tired of hearing about him.

He can do whatever he wants. But, then again, I find that adding an asterisk to the ball is petty, childish, and shouldn't be done. Otherwise it's just Barry being Barry.

I keep thinking of the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket to PVT Pyle on the obstacle course. "PVT Pyle, don't fall of the obstacle, that would break my f-ing heart." His sincerity on that sentiment is about the same as my dismay at Barry's decision to boycott the Hall. It would break my F-ing heart.

Now that said, I also agree the asterisk was dumb in 1961 and it's really dumb now.

What do you think his speech would entail anyway?

my favorite quote was:

Quote:
About the asterisk, Bonds added: "I don't think you can put an asterisk on the game of baseball. I don't think that the Hall of Fame can accept an asterisk. You cannot give people the right to alter history. You can't do it. There's no such thing as an asterisk in baseball."
Umm, the single season HR record had an asterisk next to Roger Maris name for decades, becuse he broke the record in more games than the previous record holder played in. Asterisk have been part of baseball since they started keeping stats. Don't think it should be asterisk, but there does need to be a note about this period in baseball history.

In fairness, it's not the museum's idea to brand the ball. It's a huge part of baseball history. They're a baseball history museum, thus they're going to gladly accept the ball regardless of what was done to it. All that IS a part of the history.

No asterisk was ever used in the official records for Maris' 61.

They should agree not to display it, and then, on the day after he's in, they should release a one-word press release ("Psyche!") and put the ball out. Haha yeah.

Well first off ... they can put up a plaque of whoever they want in the HOF ... only thing Barry can do is not show up. Second ... fans of the game voted the asterisk onto the ball. Third ... this is the same jerk that said they should rename McCovey Cove after him.

This guy belongs in the HOF for A holes.

Which completely justifies it, of course.

There could be a hall of fame for morons, but 4/5 of it would be reserved for sports fans.

Does being dead count as a medical reason?

I think Barry said that just to get attention on himself again, because AROD is getting all the attention and will probably get that attention over the winter. He doesn't want people to forget about him and that he broke the all time HR record, which in my eyes I still see Hank has the record holder because he did the right way.
