I've always liked Chris Byrd's style, he and John Ruiz were may favorite heavies of the late 90's to present. I think that he takes a serious beating similar to those he took against Wlad and Ike.

Chris Byrd never had the most appealing fighting style but he was one of the better American HW's in recent memory. I think he's competitve for the first half of the fight against Povetkin but then starts taking a beating and gets KO'ed late.

Am I the only one who thinks Byrd has a chance in this fight against an inexperienced fighter?
And unfortunately I think Brock handles Chambers and we are stuck with the winner of Byrd vs. Brock getting pummelled by Wlad again. |

Byrd does have a chance in this fight. I personally think Povetkin is going to take him to the woodshed but if that doesn't happen, i'll be the first one to admit I was wrong.
Even though i'm a fan of Eddie Chambers, I think Brock beats him. If one prospects "0" is going to go, he will be first. Last edited by a87star; 08-26-2007 at 12:17 AM. |

I could be wrong about Byrd. If he has anything left though he will give Povetkin fits. From what I've seen of Povetkin he has fought guys who stand right in front of him and have little to no defense.
I think this whole tourney thing is a joke to begin with. I doubt it will all happen and like Wlad is not going to fight for a year while it takes these fights to take place. Just the fact that Byrd is in it is a joke. He has not been competive for more than 15 seconds in two fights with Wlad. None of the four stand a chance against Wlad either. IMO Chambers and Byrd are the same fighter. Brock already lost. Povetkin is way too green to fight Wlad. Wlad would dominate him. |

At this point, Wlad would dominate Povetkin but as you said if Byrd has anything left in the tank, he's going to give "Sasha" fits.
This tournament has been a joke ever since it was announced. The WBO is thinking of doing one as well and the fighters they are considering are probably worse than the fighters the IBF chose. From what I read the list was John Ruiz, Sergei Liakhovich, Lamon Brewster, Davarryl Williamson, and a few other borderline contenders. |

A tournament involving the four champs would make a lot of sense but the WBO and IBF would prefer having one involving fringe contenders and prospects because they would make a lot of cash on the sanctioning fees alone. That's the alphabet soup specialty, stalling out the process of finding an undisputed champ by using gimmicks like tournaments and scheduling mandatory challengers for their title holders.

We won't see it because it makes too much sense.

I've always liked Byrd, and i hope he can pull it off, during his prime i always hated to hear boxers say they would not fight him because byrd's style would make for a boring bought, it always sounded like and excuse to duck him to me. I'll be rooting for Byrd.
I agree with bp_ HV division is pretty boring these days we need a couple of young lions to emerge or some of the young ones to step up. |
