Starting Online League

I'm starting a league and am having trouble getting the initial league file to my GMs so they can join in. One GM mentioned that my file is not having a "World" folder that is required for them to get my game on theirs. Where did I go wrong?

Or, what is the best process for starting an online league and then getting the first file to the GMs?

Best,
JM

A "world folder"? One of you might mean the world.dat file. AFAIK, you need all the dat files and a common one that's missing from a sim update file is names.dat (I think others may be missing that are needed too, but I just remember the names.dat error).

Anyway, the easiest way to set up new people is to just zip up the dat files from your saved_games/[your_league_name].lg folder, give them that to install and then either give them the link to your sim update file (it's the *.tar.gz file in your exports folder on your ftp site) to install over that or just have them update to the current sim using the in-game function.

To make it easy for you I'll just copy our download instructions and you can edit them however you like for your league. Note that I've taken out our links and you'll have to replace them with your own. And replace CBL.lg with your league's folder name.

HTML Code:
[b]Options[/b]

Links to the different files are below. What you need, however, depends on your objective:
[list=a][*]If you want to install the league files from scratch then you really only need to install the base dats file (link #1) and then the sim update file (link #2). - [i]recommended for newcomers or people with severe file problems[/i]
[*]If you only want to update your file then you only need to install the sim update file (link #2). - [i]recommended for people wanting to update outside of the game, aka updating manually[/i]
[*]If you want everything that was in our very first OOTPX file (including non-essential images, messages, etc) then you need that file (link #3). - if there's something in this file you think you want, note that it could very well already be out-of-date
[*]If you want a fully updated file with absolutely everything in it (or just something in it that you are missing and can't otherwise get) then you'll need to ask the commissioner for it as the full file is so large that we don't upload it after every sim.[/list]

[b]Simple Instructions[/b]

Download the files you need and then extract their contents (extract the update file last) into a CBL.lg folder inside your saved_games folder.

[b]Detailed Instructions[/b]

Only bother following these steps if the above isn't detailed enough for you or if you're ending up with a problem.
[list]Step 0: Make sure you are using the exact same patch # as the commish. This is very important as not using the same version can often, although not always, cause export problems. You can find the version # you are using in the top left of the screen right after loading the game. Check the Sim Info block on [url=]our portal page[/url] for the version the commish is using.

Step 1: Download the files you need to somewhere you can easily find like your desktop.

Step 2a: If you're extracting something other than the sim update file, then move it into your saved_games folder.

Note: see the "Default saved_games Folder Locations" section below if you don't know where your saved_games folder is.

Note: if you're re-installing everything after having a problem, it's probably best that you delete the existing CBL.lg before proceeding any further.

Step 2b: If you're extracting the sim update file, then move it inside the CBL.lg folder, which you should already have in your saved_games folder.

Note: unlike the base dats file, the sim update file does not create a CBL.lg folder when extracted so you need to put it in your CBL.lg folder before you extract it.

Step 3: Right-click on the file and select "Extract Here" (or the equivalent for your extraction program).

Note: if you need to extract both the base dats file and the sim update file then extract them separately and in that order.

Note: inside your CBL.lg folder there should now be several .dat files and a bunch of sub-folders.

Step 4: Test it out by loading the league in the game.

Step 5: If there's still a problem, then please [url=]post it[/url] and someone should help you shortly.[/list]

[b]Tools[/b]

To extract the files you'll need an archive extraction utility like the free [url=http://www.7-zip.org/]7-zip[/url]. There are plenty of other options, however, like WinZip and WinRar.

[b]Tips[/b]

I usually update manually (outside of the game) by just downloading and installing the second link. I download the file with a download manager (I use and recommend the free [url=http://www.jdownloader.org]JDownloader[/url]) and that way if the connection dies it will reconnect and resume the unfinished download until it is finished. This is especially helpful if your internet connection is particularly weak and the game often won't finish updating the files in game. With JDownloader you can also just keep the link listed and then whenever you want to re-download the file you can just right-click on it and select reset.
