Expansion feature request for OOTP 2006 1.1 patch

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1132585

Shaun Sullivan on Puresim 2007:

"I have some great news. I spent all weekend doing a comprehensive implementation of expansion. It was the nightmare I expected Getting the HTML Almanac to robustly handle the fact that the league structure can now vary by season was an intense coding session. Re-working the scheduling stuff was fun too…

Basically the feature allows the league to expand to any of the supported configurations and allows you to move teams around at your discretion to any division simply via selecting the team from a dropdown. There is an expansion draft with roster protection (like what we had in PS 2005)

The feature is 100% complete so, I may release a 1.1 update sooner than even I was planning. One other thing I am considering now that I have robust flexible expansion is looking at providing an option for auto-expansion based on history when playing with real players. That said, you can now at least manually expand your association to mirror history

Here are some screen shots for those that are interested.

http://www.puresim.com/exp7.jpg
http://www.puresim.com/exp8.jpg

I would like the same or a similar feature in OOTP 2006 in the 1.1 patch.

After seven versions I do not think this is too much to ask.

I'd like to see a contraction feature along with it. That is, a way with options (I think that's an important point with expansion too: how many players you can protect, how many you can lose, yadayada) to automate a dispersal draft. An expansion feature probably isn't too much to ask for by now, but is a contraction feature too much?

Same here. The options would be wonderful. You could even simulate something like the Negro leagues (activate the league in the 20's, contract it in the late 40's and disperse the players into a pool that MLB could pick up).

Even just an expansion draft would be a great start (I remember the old all star baseball that allowed you to add expansion teams and run an expansiond draft).

If this could happen that quickly I'd be all for it.

The games are different. OOTP has more customizability which likely means more code to adjust as well as more new code to write. I agree that OOTP should have expansion at some point, but I don't think it should be moved up in the queue just because PureSim is adding it right now.

Dola,

For instance, I believe the ability to activiate/deactivate leagues is a more important feature in my eyes and should get development attention first.

I'm shocked, shocked that the hobbit crowd wants to keep the game from ever having a functional MLB model.

Im with you Mal. I love those screenshots I'd really love to see that option in OOTP. Ive been doing that manually in my leagues to simulate expansion and it would sure be nice to have the game help you with that. One additional thing I would like to see is the ability to jump start your minor leagues and development system a year or two before the major league team actually starts playing so you actually will have a little home grown talent close to readiness. I know they did this in the last round of expansion in MLB but I dont know if they did it previous to that. Probably would be hard to implement though. I would settle for just a rudamentary expansion feature though

I support the contraction and expansion ideas but not MD's dismissal of those who don't want to play MLB-style.

You can have all the hobbitry you want - as long as the game has a functioning MLB model.

Which it *still* won't have, seven versions on.

I thought we had contraction. It was called Delete Team. All the players were then thrown into the FA pool.

BAM! I add my signature to this. If I want to add a league 15 years down the line, I think it should be doable. I mean, I WANT BOTH, but i'd place the abilty to add and subtract leagues at points to be a very slightly higer priorty. Just under releasing the game.
