I'm more shocked to see Ivan Rodriguez and his 5 home runs competing.

Could be worse. He could have put Suzuki in to represent Japan
(that Japan isn't represented amazes me)

At first I thought this idea of the different countries was pretty cool, until a few guys dropped out and I saw their replacements. Now it's sad.

The whole idea is stupid. The Home Run Derby has about run its course. I'd much rather see a semi-serious Old Timers Game.

I guess i im sort of suprised by some of the names that didnt get chosen for this or that arent participating big names like Sheffield, A-rod , Vlad Guerrero, Etc. I would have liked to see a couple of reds have gotten a chance at this like Adam Dunn or Willy mo pena .

I would really like to see Adam Dunn. He's one of the first guys I thought of when I thought of this year's derby.

I would love to see Dunn square off against the likes of Manny Ramirez or Vlad Guerrero or any of the guys in this years derby .Id say dunn would have probably been the odd's on fav. to win it had he been in this years home run derby .

I don't really care about the Home Run derby 'cos, y'know, it's not for statheads.

A-Rod declined an invitation to participate in the HR derby. Not sure about the rest of the guys you listed.

Ichiro actually would be fun to watch in a HR derby. He hits a lot of BP homeruns.

That being said, the HR derby is boring. I wish they replaced it in that time slot with the futures game.

I think it is a unique idea that will benefit the MLB from a standpoint of global appeal. It gives people someone to root for not just based on team.

I'm all for it...........You ain't gonna see much global competition with baseball being dropped by the IOC this week, so why not put something together?

I can only tolerate so much of Chris Berman's "backbackback..."

They should add something since the HR derby is short and not so sweet.

Take a look at the home run totals of Japanese born players who have played in MLB: http://baseball-reference.com/bio/Japan_born.shtml

Does it still amaze you now? Matsui, maybe, but if not him then I don't think any Japanese born players, even Ichiro, should be in the home run derby.

I have to admit, I like seeing Bay (well, I'd be pleased with any Canadian power guy in it) representing Canada, but I'd much rather just see all the big boppers regardless of birthplace there.

Yeah, and since the All-Star game counts for home field advantage, the Old-Timers Game stats could count toward Cooperstown.

It's the only way Darryl Strawberry will get to 500.
