Dibs on FAs and Waived Players
I'd like to know how other leagues determine what team gets dibs on FAs and waived players. I imagine some go by first come first serve and some go by last year's worst win/loss record. Are there any other ways?
Also, do you have a limit on how many players a team can pick up per sim? If so, what is it? If you believe you have any important reasons for your league's rules, please state them. In the KBL we use a variation of last year's worst win/loss record where once you get a player you are dropped to the bottom of the list. That way, if there's someone especially diligent at picking up available players they won't always have priority over teams that had a better record than them last year. We have a limit of two players picked up in this way per sim so that 1 team cannot grab a whole bunch of players and not have any left for other teams.

FAs: blind bids to commish, highest bid wins, max 3 per sim. Equal bids: worse record gets player, in april last seasons record count
Waivers: claims via forums, worse record wins, in april last seasons record counts. We really like these rules!

FA's: High offer wins with no limit on number of offers per sim. If players would accept minor league contracts, ties go to the team with the worst record.
Waivers: Claimed via email to the commish. Claim goes to team with worst record. |

The NGBL uses system similar to kq76. The claiming order is based off last years record, and once you make a claim, you're bumped to the bottom of the list.
Waivers are an open system (on the message board) -- with defined types (revocable, irrevocable). The 24 hour period after the close of traditional FA is a waiver period, designed to prevent one team from snatching up all the left over goodness. We also use the waiver system for in-season releases (again, with a 24 hour clock). We don't have a limit on in-season FA signings / waiver claims, although I'm tempted to implement one. |
