Week 2 miscellania, a couple of things I meant to put into the previous post:
- For a peek behind the curtain, when creating these teams I didn't painstakingly craft a visual identity for each one; instead, I decided how common I wanted certain colors and color combinations to be, then assigned them mostly randomly. For teams with nicknames, the nicknames came after that, so they could take team colors into account. I started with a list of 25 possible colors teams could use, and an estimate of how common they would be and the combinations that would be more or less common. So...
- One of the colors available was a pale yellow, but it's a rare one; only eight clubs in the entire pyramid (of 1,024) chose light yellow as their primary color. How odd is it that three of those teams are now in the Elite League?! Mighty Oaks, Kepmem, and the Aroketsil Canaries are all primarily using this color, rare by sports standards.
On the sporting side, there were a few achievements reached in week 2 that I missed:
- Sefti Merefife of Tsapna threw his second shutout of the season in their series finale vs. Mighty Oaks. He now has most of the season left to accomplish something that has not been done in a while - no EL pitcher has tossed three shutouts in a season since 2013, when Keleri's Tesu Shoutsepote did so.
- Two players hit for the cycle during round 4 as well:
- In the series opener between Kepmem and Aroketsil Spirits, Spirits LF Lia Tsesahem hit a reverse natural cycle, starting his evening with a home run, then the triple, double, and finally the single in the 9th. Unfortunately for him, Kepmem teed off on the Spirits bullpen that night, scoring seven in the final two innings to win 10-6.
- In Keleri's mid-series 18-9 beatdown of Nokelto, CF Lesayo Sofiulo accomplished something interesting, a cycle with an extra home run. He hit his second home run in the 8th inning, still needing the double, but Keleri just managed to get around to his position in the order again, and he got the double with two outs in the 9th.
