It's different from what has been for a long time so people get upset. Reminds me of the reactions Jim Gindin has gotten with the new gui for Front Office Football.
I don't think it looks much different than the old way. Like when I went from the 1-20 scale on my player cards to the 2 - 8 scale, it takes some getting used to.
If they make a change I hope it's to have both the old and new, or able to be modded in the skin folder.

Doesn't matter what the reason is when it looks absolutely awful. If something looks that awful you come up with a better way.
Things still need to be aestheticly pleasing while being functionally correct. So yes the indent shows it is part of the above rating but aestheticly it looks awful.
So yes it has a reason. Yes it's functionally correct. But yes it looks absolutely awful too
