It's Monday, April 6, 1981, it's opening day.

Opening day always seems to be a long time coming. And especially this season as this will be the first season in a long time when we get to see the teams and players, up close and personal, this is the game!

I'm the baseball voice of the Action Baseball League and while I like to think I sound like Mel Allen, or Ernie Harwell, I think it's a little more like James Earl Jones. I will be guiding you through this 10th championship season. I will be your eyes and ears connecting you to the pulse of this league. I've made this league available to you on StatsPlus as well.

I love the start of a new campaign…

Nine grand champions have been crowned; the latest is the wild card Detroit Dukes who got it done in game seven of the 1980 Grand Championship Series defeating the four-time consecutive American Conference champion Houston Mavericks. So today hope is in the air as the Dukes are set to defend, and the other 23 participants in this great season of baseball are preparing to seize, their crown!

Witness these grand games as America's pastime is being played to the ultimate; no bias, no cheating just an alternative of the game decided by the weights and measures of players and the random toss from the mound… this is pure baseball.

What if 24 owners of professional baseball organizations collectively said, “What if we just threw in together, find the best baseball players in the world, pay them a fair wage according to their skill, talent, and contribution to the team and the league. Played hard, fair, and honest professional baseball in every corner of our nation. Create a championship season and crown victor those who have outplayed their fellows. Let these teams compete in a Grand Tournament of Champions for the title of Grand Champions of Baseball (The best of the best).”
