This comes up a lot and I think the #1 reason people can't find a card is probably because of view settings (it happened to me when I first started years ago too). Go to Roster Management > Manage Cards, and clear all the views so they all say None or All and none of them say Hide or Only. Then sort by name and look for your player.
I think part of the problem is that by default cards go to your Reserve Roster so we can get used to looking for them there, but once it fills up they don't go there anymore, they become "inactive". If you instead get used to looking for them from the Manage Cards screen you'll more easily find them.
EDIT: You can also confirm you have indeed purchased the card by going to Market > Transaction History and look for "Got card...". You pay the PP as soon as you put in a buy order, but that doesn't mean you've actually bought the card yet.
