Yeah, if you really want to pay a monthly subscription, you can play Perfect Team. Personally, I'm all for paying for OOTP and hell, I personally would even pay AAA rates for it (I'm guessing a lot of people would balk at a $60-$80 pricetag though), but if it went to a subscription type service I'd kind of expect the game to get released far, far differently than it does now, with feature updates throughout the year instead of them all coming in March, for instance. I think it also makes All-Star Game or World Series sales a bit harder to sell; some of what people do with those is hold out until the game is as stable as it's going to get and trade the extra several months they would have had in exchange for that. You add new features, you're adding bugs, that's just how features work.

I personally think the business model probably works pretty OK for them and we don't really need to spend time worrying about changing it.
