 IRL those players might exist - witness Mike Trout - but the majority of players, even high draft picks, don’t fully live up to their potential IRL. Baseball is not the NFL. With very, very few exceptions, and even those are often considered post facto (like, everyone knew A-Rod was going to be a superstar… but everyone also knew Claudell Washington and Al Chambers and Brien Taylor were too, and for that matter Stephen Strasberg, who wound up being a very good player, just not a sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer), acquiring prospects in baseball is a crapshoot.
If anything the game isn’t random enough with younger players. It’s not because, well, people who don’t understand the game come in and complain that it’s “not realistic” when entire draft classes seem to bust, and then the devs respond by lightening up the random chance.
