Simple season replay mode.
Trouble is, I really like the way player development works, and the ability through TCR and other sliders to affect how these random changes work. And, since they are random, it gives me no inherent advantage over the AI. Indeed, I am probably at a slight disadvantage, knowing player history, expecting that rookies become the future All Stars they were IRL. The AI is not clouded by any of that.
Playing with development on, and TCR of at least 100, and recalc off, I am eliminating any inherent advantage I would have of “knowing the future”. With this approach, both the AI and me have to cope with the changes in players as they develop. That’s more of a challenge.
A good example is my 1966 Season sim, handling the Phillies. I chose not to make the disastrous trades that lost Ferguson Jenkins and Adolfo Phillips. But, with recalc off and player development on and TCR of 100, neither Phillips nor Jenkins may develop into the players they became. Bob Buhl and Dick Groat might find the Fountain of Youth. I’ll take my chances.

Hmm. I'm not seeing the dilemma

Seems to me you've figured a pretty good way to play, given what you want to do.
I mean, you have to have recalc on if - for subsequent seasons - you want to be able to compare your performance as GM/Mgr to real life, and therefore you will always have the advantage of "seeing into the future." However, with TCR at 100, that takes away a good chunk of being to see into the
immediate (rest of current year) future. That does, however,
also take away a good chunk of the ability to compare your performance as GM/Mgr to real life, because you're no longer working with the same apples & oranges that the real GM & mgr were... But it seems to me you've found a good balance.
The only other option I can think of would be to have TCR/development off, and instead establish some sort of house rules that keep you from taking advantage of your ability to see the future.
