August recap - Division leaders:
Lager League - Pilsner Division: Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot - a so-so month of August (14-14) has the Blithering Idiot clinging to a 1 game lead as the season heads down the stretch run. The team is hoping to ride their top ranked offense to yet another division crown as they seek their 3rd BCS title.
Lager League - Kolsch Division: Goose Island Goslings - with the rest of the division below .500, the Goslings have only to play average ball down the stretch to claim the crown. They hold an 8 game lead and have a magic number of 26 games.
Lager League - Helles Division: Sierra Nevada Narwhals - in the tightest overall division, the Narwhals hold a 1 game lead over 2nd place, and just 6.5 games over last place. Starter Bobby Antonio has tried his best to rally his new club (acquired in a trade on July 15th), going 4-3 in 9 starts with a 1.93 ERA since joining Sierra Nevada.
Lager League - Tripel Division: Texas Leaguer Chin Music - while they only went 15-14 in August, the Chin Music still hold a 7 game lead in the division. The team is hoping to make it down the stretch and through the playoffs even after losing top starter Elia Bacca for the season to injury.
Stout League - Porter Division: Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow - Three Floyds holds a slim 1.5 game lead over second place heading into September. Youngster Ben Troyer has avoided the dreaded sophomore slump, surpassing his rookie season mark of 10 wins already with another month plus to go in the season (currently 11-8 and a 2.51 ERA).
Stout League - Dunkel Division: Jester King Das Wunderkind - a razor thin half game is all that separates Jester King from second place. While the team isn't in the top rank in average (6th) or home runs (6th), they are still managing to push runs across at a high rate (2nd ranked) because they are finding other ways to get on base (3rd ranked in on base pct).
Stout League - Eisbock Division: Smog City Sabre Toothed Squirrels - Smog City fans are staying cautiously optimistic as their club holds a wee half game lead heading into September, as they seek their first ever Eisbock division crown. Veteran starter and long-time Smog City player Clint Willey is having a career year on the mound with a single season high in wins already with a 16-6 record and 3.30 ERA.
Stout League - Altbier Division: Toboggan Lunatic Fridge - an unusual 14-14 month didn't phase Toboggan as they still hold the top record in the league and the biggest lead of any division at 10 games. First baseman Jason Carter is having his best season ever by far, batting 70 points higher than any of his previous 4 full seasons. He currently has 15 home runs, 98 RBIs and a .352 average (all single season high marks already).
