May recap: Division leaders
Lager League - Pilsner Division: Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot - it's definitely not the power game that has the Blithering Idiot atop the division after the first two months, as their top home run man has a grand total of 5. Instead, it's the pitching as Weyerbacher has the 2nd ranked starters ERA and 3rd ranked bullpen ERA, as well as being top ranked in runs against; as they seek their third Beer League title.
Lager League - Kolsch Division: Laughing Sun Red Dwarf - with a typical season finish of 3rd or lower, fans of the Red Dwarf are enjoying some unusual early season success as their club sit atop the standings with a razor thin half game lead. Second baseman Jimmy Swan is quickly becoming a fan favorite this season. Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2021 season, Swan has progressed to full time starter and cleanup batter in the Laughing Sun lineup, batting a solid .350 this season with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs
Lager League - Helles Division: Waikiki Ala Moana - a review of final standings in Beer league history shows Waikiki finishing in last place in the Helles division every season except the inaugural run (where they finished 2nd with an 81-81 record). So hardcore fans of the club would be forgiven if they expected the same this season. Instead, their club leads the pack with a 4 game cushion. Superstar first baseman (and pitcher) George Skiff is off to another solid start with a .329 average, 11 home runs and 34 RBIs.
Lager League - Tripel Division: Texas Leaguer Chin Music - With a high powered offense (top ranked in on base pct, OPS, batting WAR, wOBA, stolen bases and base running; 2nd ranked in runs scored; 3rd ranked in batting average and home runs), Texas League are hoping their starting pitching (11th ranked starters ERA) catches up and the offense continues to click as they seek their second division crown in team history.
Stout League - Porter Division; Funky Buddha Huki Idol - Funky Buddha is using some savvy base running (top ranked +11.2 base running) and batting (top ranked batting average at .283) to power their club to the top of the division after two months of play.
Stout League - Dunkel Division: Four Hands Typhon - a solid pitching staff from top to bottom (top ranked in starters ERA, bullpen ERA, FIP, and pitching WAR) has Four Hands in control of the division with a 2 game lead as they seek their second consecutive division crown and their first ever Beer League title.
Stout League - Eisbock Division: Red Rock Elephino - after a few last place finishes, few experts predicted Red Rock to be a contender this season. After two months of play, the Elephino have the largest lead of any team with a 7 game cushion as we head into June.
Stout League - Altbier Division: Toboggan Lunatic Fridge - with only 6 games separating first from last in the division, it's anyone guess who might finish atop the standings at the end of the season. After two months of play, the Lunatic Fridge enjoy that position, a slim half game ahead of Tattered Flag. While he doesn't have enough at bats to qualify for the batting title at this point, youngster Dan Jarvela (23 years old) is batting an impressive .417 so far (in 108 ABs) as he looks to help his club to their first ever Beer League title.
