July recap: League Leaders
Lager League: Pilsner Division - Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot - The Blithering Idiot continues their steady march towards back-to-back Pilsner division pennants as they take an 18.5 game lead into August. The starting trio of Stamey (12-3, 1.77), Waddingham (11-2, 2.77), and Rodriguez (11-4, 2.72) are leading the way from the mound, with the four and five starters McBean (8-0, 3.80) and Meyers (8-4, 3.68) doing their part as well.
Lager League: Kolsch Division - Scorched Earth Giant Killer - After looking up at Charleville at the end of June, Scorched Earth went on their own scorched earth campaign through July with a 16-7 record. Combined with a disastrous month for the Half Wits (4-19), gave the Giant Killer a solid 9 game division lead heading into August.
Lager League: Helles Division - Ballast Point Commodores - thanks to the performance of July Batter of the Month Charlie Berry, the Commodores sailed into August with a 5 game lead in the Helles division On the mound, the 1-2 punch of Mike Roberts (9-2, 2.34) and Min Tae Bae (12-3, 1.74) are providing a solid presence on the mound to keep Ballast Point on course for their second pennant.
Lager League: Tripel Division - Meadowlark Mob Barley - Meadowlark is riding their top notch offense hoping to claim their first Tripel division pennant (3rd in runs scored, 2nd in batting average and on base percentage). Their middle of the road pitching staff could be a liability down the stretch though.
Stout League: Porter Division - Terrapin Hopsecutioner - A dismal month for Crooked Crab (8-19) opened the door for Terrapin to retake the Porter division lead. Solid pitching from Wil Gonzalez (9-7, 2.26), Jonathon Perkins (10-4, 2.01), and Justin Gable (13-5, 2.79) are leading the way from the defensive side; while left fielder Miguel Ochoa (.348 average, 9 home runs, 61 RBIs) is leading the charge from the plate.
Stout League: Dunkel Division - Four Hands Typhon - A solid 17-9 month of July propelled Four Hands to the top of the heap in the Dunkel division (also helped that last month's leader, Rabid, had a horrific 3-23 month including an on-going 17 game losing streak). The tag-team efforts of 3-4 batters Danny Herman (12 home runs, 76 RBIs, .347 average) and Justin Gulling (10 home runs, 63 RBIs, .330 average) are doing their best to get Four Hands their first playoff appearance in team history.
Stout League: Eisbock Division - Kona Pipeline - Kona extended their division lead to 7.5 games. Slugger Rico Mendieta (35 home runs, 93 RBIs, .261 average) is still on pace to tie the single season mark for home runs.
Stout League: Altbier Division - Toboggan Lunatic Fridge - in the tightest race, Toboggan holds a slim 2 game lead heading into August. Ace starter Amine Brisset (12-5, 2.47 ERA, 168 strikeouts) is hoping to carry his team to a pennant after back-to-back last place finishes, including a league worst 107 losses last season.
