Other/Roster News:

GM Notes:
Well we are back in first and it feels good up here. I just hope we can hang on. The trade for John Smith looks to be a good one so far. I am hoping having him at SS will improve our defense and his bat will make a difference. I was never sold on Francisco Chavez, and John Smith is unsignable in the off-season, but we if he gets us over the hump and makes us a top contender I am all for it.

I am wondering if I should deal Nobukazu Higashi or not. Right now he his hot, he is fragile pitcher, and is due a lot of money next year. So if I deal him for someone close to him for a few years it will be more useful for this team and the future. Plus any time you are dealing with a fragile pitcher you never know what may happen... and I hope I didn't just jinx me. There is a huge market out there for him, but to make a deal work I will have to pull off a lot of magic. A younger Higashi has to be there, right?

Our manager was super excited about Dan Foley and how he has become a team leader and important part of this lineup and then ever since he has been doing nothing. In July he is hitting just .236 with 5 HR's and 9 RBI's over 15 games. Funny thing is this has coincided with him asking for a wacky extension. I guess he isn't happy I can't offer him the money he is looking for.

Raul Garica hasn't caught much since being called up, starting in just 3 games, playing in 11. He is 4 for 12 with 2 RBI's so I am hoping to see him get some more AB's... I do have our top prospect Miguel Cortesini who is hitting .290-5-30 in AAA and Jose Matos who is crushing hitting .359-10-50, but slumped when he got his call-up. However, he probably needs more AB's up with the big club only getting 13 AB's... and then we have Emilio Alba who is our back-up catcher who is hitting .351-9-40. Talk about depth at a position.

We have a couple of tough weeks ahead of us as we face off against the Barons, the Colonials and the Iron pigs. That Iron Pigs series is going to be a huge series for us, and a crazy way to start off August. If we can make it through that series we should be in pretty solid shape for the rest of the season.

Speaking of August, there are 11 days till the trade deadline is here. Now I have to figure if I am willing to pull something else off of just chill and be happy with my depth and with what I have in the minors. I will be doing a lot of thinking
