My way of dealing with this is at a certain point during the year to make old players a bit younger so that the game allows for a Barry Bonds type situation. Game still won't let anyone play past 45 and while it's rare, it's nice to see a bit of oddball. I can see why you wouldn't program that into the game, but so long as it's capable to do it on your own, then I'm good with it.
