inside those programs you can exclude entire folders... i'd suggest doing that.

if you have an av software suite running all the time (real-time) it's a total waste of resoucres... and jsut a security blanket with vitually no benefits and certain constant costs (using resources all the time!).

get the ones that allow you to schedule them to run 1/week or 1/month and skip the real-time bs and the larger av suites are just total bloatware.

mcafee, norton, these programs are a joke. unless you actually are not computer literate and you do encounter viruses and problems due to your behaviour... then you may want to leave them up.

if you're smart enough not to open emails you don't know (especially replying to them to stop LoL), never extract files from chain emails (stupid!!@$!@#), and you don't randomly click "okay" without reading each time your browser pops up a window, you'll be okay.

don't run weird applications you've never heard of... simple stuff really.

i think it's been a decade or more since i saw a virus of any concern... and spyware is bound to pop up on occasion, but typically not as dangerous as it could be (more spying for ad content than anything really nefarious 99% of the time)

never download from cNet, lol. or some mass download site, always find the orignal maker's website and get it there. make sure it's a real company, if that really has to be said, lol.

when friends send chain emails or attachments of a cute cat... don't open it ... youaren't being rude... they are being stupid. unless they took the picture of the cat and uploaded that file, of course... speaking of random bs files sent on internet becase the look funny/stupid/cool/cute - but were not made by anyone you know. little games from emails are even worse! don't let curiousity over somethign so unimportant damage your computer - or worse your credit rating.
