My review/my issues

I love OOTP. If you stopped making the game in 2012 it would STILL be the best baseball simulation game anywhere. Starting from this perspective, the advances made ALL THROUGH OOTP17 are absolutely amazing.

I've played OOTP17 for about 6 total hours since I DL'ed it on Friday. I never played 3D very much — I just seem to prefer reading along with the full detail PbP and using my imagination in broadcast view. One reason I don't use 3D mode so much is that the player ratings disappear during PbP and that bugs me for some reason. Not a big deal at all though.

Standard regular season play is smooth as usual. If it's quicker than OOTP16, I haven't noticed, but I thought OOTP ran pretty darn fast on my MacBook Pro Retina.

Historical Exhibition mode is an excellent addition. I've waited since 2012 to get this and have spent hours organizing series and tournaments, etc.

But there are things about the Historical Exhibition that bug me a little bit.

X -- The player ratings are hard set on the 20-80 scale, which I've never used and cannot get used to (yet). I wish there was a way to set player ratings back to the 1-20 scale for Historical Exhibition. But considering that I get this at all, this is a minor quibble.

X -- PbP is buggy in Historical Exhibition mode. For example, if Reggie Sanders is in right field and Barry Bond is in left field, every ball hit to LEFT field is fielded by "Reggie Sanders!" It's the same with some infield ground balls. A ball hit to second base will be fielded by the third baseman (according to the PbP broadcast). Again, a minor thing overall, but if it can be fixed, it would be nice.

X -- Player ages change hilariously when teams from different eras are matched against each other. One team's player ages were listed in the upper 40s to upper 50s (Keith Hernandez, age 54) while the other team was loaded with toddlers and teenagers (J.T. Snow, age 3). This has no effect whatsoever on game play, but it's a bit of a cosmetic eyesore.

NONE of this is going to keep me from enjoying OOTP17 in any way, though. Fixing these things would sure increase my enjoyment, but on the whole, I'm just so super delighted to have OOTP in my life and I'm thankful every day for Markus and the whole team.

I love this game.
