The problem, as far as I can see, is that the fighters themselves aren't prepared to disregard the alphabet belts. Most of, if not all of them, don't seem to realise how little value or prestige they now have as championships.
I don't really understand the way things work in regards to the sanctioning bodies and the fighters. I know the fighters have to pay a percentage of their fight purse to the organisation when they fight for the title (the sanctioning fee), but does the organisation do anything or provide anything in regards to the purse? Or is that all, 100% arranged by the promoters?
But the promoters have relationships and "understandings" going with the organisations (eg. King and the WBC), so they are just as bad. Is it a case of not being able to get anywhere in the sport without the top promoters and the alphabet gang?
