Hopefully someone will come along who can help you better than this and I imagine you've probably already tried some of these, but:
1) You do know you can
adjust your laptop power saving features, correct? I myself have a few I use at different times. I have to use one particular one every time I burn something. Normally I like to have my laptop's monitor turn off after 10-15 minutes of activity, but for some reason a burn screws up if the monitor shuts off so I turn it to a profile that keeps it on then once it's done I turn it back to the regular profile.
2) I also wonder if it might be a bogging down issue too. Trying some of the things from
this post might help.
