If he had made a deal with the feds that they couldn't use it against him and then publicly admitted it and then went to schools to speak against drugs then yeah, I'd forgive him. But doing this just so he can get back into the game (it sounded to me like the Cards wouldn't take him back unless he came clean), no thanks. You cheated the game. Go back to being a hermit.

It's been months since he was announced as their new hitting coach and I still don't get it. Don't you want someone who actually hit well to be your hitting coach like, you know, someone who had a better than average BA? That sure doesn't describe McGwire to me. I won't go with the obvious joke, but what, is he somehow going to teach guys how to hit for power? That's not something you can really teach, is it?

Getting back to the steroids issue, I highly doubt he wasn't on roids in his rookie season. I am somewhat sympathetic to the whole injury excuse, but still, unless it's totally safe and there's no reason for anyone not to take them, then it's against the spirit of the game and shouldn't be done. I don't like this. I've never really liked LaRussa (the Jays and As had some good battles in the 90s), but the Cardinals franchise has for the most part been a pretty likeable franchise for me (going back to the Herzog days to today with the very likeable Pujols). It's very disappointing that they're bringing this cheat back.
