I know I've mentioned this before, but for all that everyone made about the ball being bad for goalkeepers, and more goals would be scored, the stats don't bear it out.

This World Cup, at a current goal per game average of 2.35, is the second lowest in the history of the competition. The lowest was Italia 90 at 2.21, and it is far behind the third lowest, Korea/Japan 2002 at 2.52.

However if we use the knockout round games to date to project the final total, there will only be a further 13 goals in the final 6.5 games, therefore giving a total of 148 for a final average of just 2.31 goals per game.
