Long-time OOTP Franchise fan here! I’ve always been super into it and then I stumbled upon this new button on the front page called Perfect Team. And just like that, I was hooked. Actually, my journey started way back with FPS Baseball 94, which totally feels like the inspiration for OOTP. The similarities are wild—so many ideas seem straight out of that game.

Since I'm a huge fan of this franchise, I'm always up for sharing what I've learned and maybe even giving some tips on how to enjoy it even more.

GOLD .310
Season #5 81-81 .500

eRC 722 (715) +7
Defense 684 (645) +39
eFIP 910 (909) +1

A minor header update is needed to provide more context about this team. Having a budget and knowing the value of the active roster is a good way to understand how much it takes to compete at different levels. Prices are based on L10 values at the end of the season. This time, the values are provided earlier since the team did not make the playoffs.

The season finished with a .500 record, which is exactly what we were hoping for. Our goal was to remain safely in the Gold level, and that is exactly what happened, despite a little scare.

Looking at final statistics for the team, I now know which attributes I need to focus on when upgrading active roster: Offense - Avoid K’s, Pitching - Bullpen Control. Of course, it all depends which cards will be mainly used in the next Gold league, I’ll still focus where I can unless I pull some mad Perfect card from a pack.

Top performers

3B Ron Santo - 3.7 WAR, 6.3 ZR
SP Frank Tanana - 3.8 WAR, 3.67 FIP
SP Walter Johnson - 3.7 WAR, 3.71 FIP

How the season started
So opened 70+ Standard packs and got a lot of missing cards to cover missions, just not so mega lucky with possible upgrades to lineup. Best catch was CL Josh Hader who is now the main CL.

Team rating going into 2027 Gold tournament:
eRC 715 (710) +5
Defense 646 (635) +11
eFIP 909 (863) +46

There is slight improvement in Offense and Defense which is coming from CF Jim Edmonds. Pitching got 2 new starters and new main CL, there is always room to improve pitching, it's just tough figuring out what to improve and having patience not to demote just after a couple of bad sim weeks. Trick is figuring out which role fits better for each pitcher, e.g. Pat Neshek is great as Specialist, not so much in general roles because of obvious weakness against LHB.

Roster improvements
Need to deal with 1B and RF, seem to have biggest gains that can be achieved with relatively low cost. LIVE Missions are a go to find some better options.

don't forget to upgrade rosters ...

So, I had a reality check before the All-Star break, about three months into the season. Things were starting off well, but it seems like I'm not the only one upgrading rosters... go figure

I opened some packs, but decided to do some market buys to improve my situation as I was getting dangerously close to relegation territory. My record in April was 16-10 (.615), which led the league, but it dropped to 7-18 (.280) by June.
I've managed to achieve a winning percentage of over .500, which will allow me to stay in the middle of the pack and continue improving the team next season.

Got some cards from packs that I use now :

    POS OVR B NAME…...................eRC DEF...CON POW EYE
    CF..98..R Byron Buxton............73..94....68..78..99
    RF..94..R Socks Seybold...........86..95....84..77..96

    Bought from market:

    POS OVR B NAME…...................eRC DEF...CON POW EYE
    1B..92..R Bob Allison.............91..70....74..72..92
POS OVR T NAME....................eFIP..STU MOV CON
    ST..87..R Ron Davis...............100....171.58..55
    MR..86..L David Wells.............78....89..89..73

    And got from mission:

POS OVR T NAME....................eFIP..STU MOV CON
    MR..92..L Gary Lucas..............76....72..110.68

I managed to gain control not only by improving the offense, but also by simplifying the complex bullpen roles setup, which seemed to be having a greater impact.

For next week, I will start keeping track of the overall active roster value, which is a good benchmark against other teams. The current running value based on the "Last 10" sales is 430K Perfect Points. This value has only been achieved thanks to some great pack pulls and a Perfect Choice Pack.
