What is the next evolution of tactics in FHM?

I've been thinking about the next evolution in FHM in how we set our team's tactics. I am by no means a great tactician, so I can't provide a ton of great input as to what would be the most realistic, but this is what I had in mind:
  • being able to set a player's role while on the power play or penalty kill (this has been mentioned before)
  • setting up each forward line and defense pairing separately (since they don't always play together)
  • deciding how your team will play (with primary and secondary options) and practicing to get your team more familiar with that style - similar to how a basketball team will have several defenses they'll use during each game. There was a tactical familiarity setting at least back in FHM 3.
  • feedback on how well your player roles mesh together, helping newer players avoid mistakes like putting three danglers on the same line

Tangentially related:
  • being able to save tactical settings and import them into new games. I pretty much play the same way with every save and it would save a ton of time if I could export and then import each time.
  • setting player tactics when on that player's page

Thoughts?

We really need a map of tactical formations and where the game puts players in different scenarios, like showing where players will be in the umbrella powerplay formation. or who the f1 or f3 is in forechecking situations. It is difficult to build lines when you don't even know who is doing which job.

That would be huge...I also tend to play similar with each team, and build around my vision...it'd help immensely

100%! I have been wanting this feature for years.

Getting realistic tactics in place for special teams would be huge. Especially on the PP where there are no traditional positions being played and most good PPs are extremely dynamic with a lot of rotation between players. Having different roles for different strengths would also be beneficial.

I like the idea of being able to save tactics also, I tend to look to use similar tactics across different saves so that would be a good feature.

I literally just posted this in another thread before seeing these posts:

There is such a high degree of vagueness and uncertainty within the game around tactics. I've been saying it for years and it feels too much of a guessing game.

It's difficult to know the extent and depth of how the sim and match engine incorporates tactical instructions.

I buy this game every single year, but I find the whole crapshoot around tactics along with the poor design of various screens in the game infuriating.

They just need to polish this stuff right up and get the game living up to it's full potential before building in more new features.
