F2P (Free 2 Play) Domination - Post your best team

I dominated PT23 as a F2P player this year.

Here's my season summary:

I only spent 4 seasons outside of Diamond League (started in Bronze to Silver to Gold, then dropped to Gold one time) and I won the World Series all four times.

In my 33 seasons in Diamond League, I made the playoffs 23 times, I won 13 division titles, and I won 3 World Series.

I played 4 seasons in Perfect League, made the playoffs one time.

I qualified for 16 PTCS tourneys (averaged two per period). I had very poor luck here, just 1 place out of 16, but still a solid accomplishment. I made it in the Weekly Tradition all 8 times, Daily Traditional 5 times, and Daily PD 3 times.

I also had 5 top 10 weekly finishes for tournaments, including a 2nd and a 3rd place finish.

I'm particularly proud of this next one:
I completed ALL MISSIONS (except the Brooks Silver/Gold unlock, since I bought the Gold instead of the Silver).

Yes, the TOPPS Bunt mission set was a massive undertaking.

And I end the season with almost a perfect team - outside of the PTCS reward cards, I have nearly the best player at every position.

I have the top buy order in for Randy Johnson right now (350K) and I'll add him since he's the best lefty and there's almost no lefthanded pitching. I am also adding Billy Wagner (lefty). These will likely be my final additions.

The cards I would have liked to add but was unable to:
SE Mike Schimdt - with the lack of lefty's he's just way overpriced. Brett is the better option vs. righties, so wasn't worth putting out 500K for him.
LE Ricky Henderson - definitely would have found a place for him, but again, not worth 600-700K.
Frank Thomas - As above, small upgrade over Votto/Greenberg for a big price tag.
Jacob DeGrom, possible a few other pitchers - these guys are slightly better than Smoltz, for example, but so if I was P2P I would have added him as well.

So; I was a few million short of having the PERFECT team. But outside of the PTCS rewards, this is pretty much as good as it gets.

Anyways, I always see people saying that F2P can't compete once the season gets to a certain point, and I just wanted to show what was possible.

If anyone has a great F2P season, post your results below - I'd love to see!

My F2P team is notable for starting late. It didn't hurt me though because I made PeL in my 10th season. Had I started on time and done nothing except collect twitch drops and login rewards I would have been even further ahead. On the other hand, chasing PeL so early led me to overpay on intermediary cards. Over 2 million points wasted on my current team compared to L10 prices. 525K wasted on Gehrig alone which was compounded by me locking it for a few diamond packs!!

I was unfortunate to miss playoffs in 2041 because I was in the strongest gold division you'd ever want to see. How often are you 88-74 and finish FOURTH? Otherwise, I very rarely miss the playoffs. Oddly in 2056, I tied for the top relegation spot, but won on tiebreaks to hang in there.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with PT23 and I hope the dev team doesn't try to crush 24/7 F2P diehards in PT24.

I'm definitely with you on this - perhaps we are in the minority - but this is my 4th year playing PT and I believe this is definitely the best version.

And I also way overpaid for some of the top cards when they first came out - to the tune of 1.2 million PP for the PS3 Babe Ruth! Which I still have. And 750K for the LE Pujols (which I recently finally sold for 225K). But because of my success in tourneys (particularly the daily tourneys) with these cards playing a big role, I think it may have come close at least to paying for itself. After the final update, I spent like 5 million PP on those two cards and thousands of packs; in hindsight, not the best choice.

The twitch drops are one area I have never taken advantage of - I just don't have the time to watch streams for packs. I get like two a week when I tune into the Thursday stream.

The three areas I crushed in:
Preparing for missions/buying cards before they were in missions
Tourneys
Live updates

What would you consider is the perfect team? What pieces are you missing?

I as an F2P normally am able to make the perfect league at some point a little after the season ends, I've done so on every version I've played before ('19, '21, '22). But this year has been some what of a failure for me. The highest I got was a mediocre season in diamond before dropping to gold again. I hope next year will be better, with more doable missions that can help me build my team because this year was impossible for me.

I ended up adding Frank Thomas instead of Randy Johnson (also added Billy Wagner for a lefty in the pen).

So, my missing pieces would be:

SE 3B Mike Schimdt for vs. lefties
LE LF Ricky Henderson
SP Randy Johnson and Jacob DeGrom, both a slight upgrade for the staff.

I ended up about 1.5-2m PP short.

I believe those are the only 4 cards I would want to add to the team that aren't PTCS rewards.

I was actually one of the lucky players to pull Rickey Henderson, but that is about the only competent player on my team, besides Nap Lajoie and Ralph Kiner. I'm trying to change things around to make a playable team around them. So far I've succeeded in making a wild card gold team.
Are Tris Speaker, Adrian Beltre/Scott Rolen any good? Are there any quality affordable SSs/?

You need to sell that Rickey. He's worth too much for your team. Last I saw the buy order was like 850K. Either way, list it at least that high and someone will pay it. With that 800K you can buy a very, very nice team. You won't have the absolute premier players but you'll be a consistent diamond team.

What players would you recommend? I don't want to sell him unless I know what I'm getting? What should I get with that? (Like I said besides him I have Lajoie, Wells, Charleston, Kiner and 140-240k)

My question to the original poster or others on this thread - Were you able to get such good results without playing in tournaments? Or is tournaments the key?
