Signed Free agents immediately sent to waivers

Having some issues in my fictional league that whenever a free agent is signed to a major league deal, they immediately get put on waivers and more often then not, get picked up by other teams. This is happening to AI teams, as well as the ones I'm controlling.

This definitely does seem off.

It would be quite helpful here to know your league settings, and be able to try to recreate this ourselves, so if you can ftp us your save files or put them on Dropbox/Google Drive and post a link, that would be helpful. Thanks!

Please post your league files as I mentioned above, as this is very likely a settings related issue, and we'd need to see what your settings are in order to make any changes.

I am having the same issue where FA's go straight to DFA. The game is basically unplayable in historic mode while in the free agent era. I have all settings to Asst GM except draft.

Pls fix.

If you're playing in historic mode, a lot of the time here the issue can be that you have a roster limit set, and the teams don't have room for new signings. So make sure the roster limit is high enough to give them a little wiggle room.

If you've done that and this is still an issue, please do send us your league files where this is happening so we can check them out.

Are you playing with or without minors. If without, then make sure your Reserve Roster is at least 12. If it keeps happening, raise it some more.

I believe what Crazycanuck1985 has pointed out is that there is an issue with the standard MLB simulations that creates an issue. I should not need to create a reserve roster so the AI can stash 14 relievers when they only need maybe 9 or 10.

In previous versions, it seemed to be the teams with the biggest budgets would sign every free agent pitcher when they count not feasible carry all of them on the active roster. This created a roster churn of overpaid relievers year after year.

Sometimes the AI would even release a RP and resign him (sometimes twice during one offseason).

I will create a new default sim tonight as commish only and I can post some of my findings (I invite others to do the same).

Downloaded the latest patch and started a new sim. Everything left on default, but I changed the overalls/potentials to 20/80 scale by 5.

Clayton Kershaw - Signed March 16, 2024 (injured already) and released after recovering from injury (7 games in AAA before release)


Giovanny Gallegos - Released April 10, 2024 (coming off a 1.61 ERA in 61 games in 2023), signed May 6th, released August 29, signed September 10th


Miguel Castro - Signed January 19, released January 26, signed April 4 & extended on April 22, released April 24, 2025 & signed May 8, 2025.


Tyler O'Neill - 4.3 WAR in 2024 and with an OPS of .813, just signed a big 4yr extension in November, released in May 2025.


Seth Lugo - Signed January 18, released January 25, signed again by Mets on March 24, released on June 6th.


Collin McHugh - Signed January 17, released January 24, signed again by Mets on February 24, released July 18


Tony Gonsolin - Signed 5yr $48m extension October 2024, released December 2024.


There are many other examples of RP who signed for ~$1.3m and end up being DFA'd only to toil away in AA (or lower).
These "weaker" RP tend to not end up being released as they seem to not refuse their outright assignments.

This has been happening to me frequently. I will sign a free agent and they are immediately placed on irrevocable waivers, so I can’t even make a roster adjustment if I wanted to.

Are you simming with do not disturb on? Because when the signing occurs the sim should stop so you can make the roster adjustment. They also shouldn't go on waivers, but they will default to the designated for assignment area.

I’m fairly certain this is a bug because it happened when I did all my tasks one day and then simulate to the next day, I have an inbox message that the player signed with me, fans are happy, and then he’s immediately on irrevocable waivers. Most of the time it’s not a huge deal because they don’t get claimed, but sometimes they do, and Ohtani is still “unhappy” about transactions a full year later because he was placed on waivers.

It's about 2.5GB. I remember from something else that you only need some of the directories, but I can't remember which--LMK and I'll zip those up.

Pretty sure they only need the ".dat" files themselves, none of the other folders.
