The 10-5 rule

I'd love to see this rule in OOTP. A player with 10 years of service in the big leagues and 5 years with one team must approve any trade before it goes through. I love the additional challenges that the waiver rules have brought to the game, and I think this one would bring more.

Anyone else with me? Are there other rules you'd particularly like to see make it into the game?

That would be a good addition but what would factor into a player approving a trade?

I think it'd be a great addition. Perhaps the player's approval could key off of his desire to play for a winner. If he's so wired, then he'd disapprove any trade to a team under .500 or not in first or second place in its division. If he doesn't care about playing for a winner, then the player's approval would ordinarily be granted (with some randomness factor added to mimic real life). See, e.g., Steve Finley's demand that he'll only waive his "no-trade" if a west coast team is involved.

I think you'd also want to factor in his "team loyalty" as a "I like this community" interest, so players with high loyalty would be less likely to approve a deal.

Yeah, that would be an interesting consideration. The guy's loyal, but you can't get rid of him!

I think it would end up having to work out similarly to how players decide they don't want to sign with particular teams in free agency, which seems pretty random with a favoritism towards winning teams. Ideally, players would have hidden (or maybe not hidden) traits, perhaps randomly generated, that would determine their preferences.

Along these lines, no trade clauses, incentive bonuses, and signing bonuses for free agency would be interesting.

The 10-5 rule would be a nice addition - it's also a fairly common suggestion from what I've seen. Here's hoping

It should be pretty simple. 10 years of major league service time (you should be able to find that in the financial/roster status window in the player card) and 5 seasons of consecutive service with his current team (look in career stats to see who he played for each season).

For 800+ players? I was trying to figure it out on the export to excel; I was hoping it might be as easy as an IF statement. Doesn't look like it though.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were looking for a global function. Can't help you out there.
