Most annoying homer call

Does anyone else find the following call to be worse than fingernails on chalkboard?

"You ca-a-an putitontheboa-a-ard YES!"

I believe it's the White Sox TV guys, but I could be wrong. I just know that when they show game highlights with lots of homers, I think to myself, "who the heck came up with this, and why the heck doesn't someone stop it? I'm sure glad Jerry Remey never picked up something so crass." Maybe I am hypersensitive to this particular issue.

Yup, it's Hawk Harrelson. I get WGN on cable so sometimes I watch the White Sox games with the sound down. By the way, the word 'homer' in your thread title has a double meaning when talking about the White Sox announcers. He loves to say 'score one for the good guys' or some such nonsense.

I'm sure you've just watched Sportscenter since the Sox hit six homeruns yesterday against Philly.

Gload was in the lineup, and the protection he gave his teammates was incredible.

I watched one of their games back when MLB Extra Innings was free, and they are the most biased, annoying announcers I've evern listened to. I feel sorry for White Sox fans because of the crap they must fill their head with. In one inning alone they mentioned how Miguel Olivo was one of the strongest players in the league and an all-star within the next year, and how Juan Uribe was one of the best up and comers. They think every player on that team is the next coming of Vladimir Guerrero.

Thats what I thought the thread was about. And didn't think it was about a homerun until you bring up that comment.

This is why I like the Red Sox guys. They're pretty big homers, but they do it in a jokey fashion. They laugh about it, not really taking themselves seriously at all but pulling for the Red Sox the whole time. It's really fun to watch the game with Orsillo/Remy or McDonough/Remy calling the games.

No way...

the Pirates announcer's "Knick, knack paddy whack" crap is the most annoying thing I've ever heard. Think about it this way...as rare as Pirates highlights are on ESPN I want to puke everytime I hear that crap.

Tell me about it... after they showed a trivia question about the 57? year old catcher Remy jokingly said that he'd love to try and make a comeback, and Orsillo had some witty reply to go with it. Those are the types of things that keeps the games interesting, though I think Remy could lose his "buenos noches amigos" line

Yeah, Chicago actually has it bad two ways. Worst television homerun call and really my least favorite tv announcers are definitely Hawk and D.J. on the Southside.

However, I think we've also got the worst 'homer' in sports here too and that is Ron Santo on WGN-radio. He will get so frustrated with the team that he seriously, no joke (anybody that listened to the Saturday game of Cubs at Pirates, the day after Mackowiak's HUGE night), will stop talking. He didn't talk at all, for two full innings leaving his partner soloing essentially. And then Santo had the nerve to complain about Lloyd McClendon questioning an umpire about the hit bastman ratio 16-2 at the time in the season-long series (Cubs hitting 16 Pirates) when I've heard him numerous times spout off about how Cubs pitchers need to protect Cub hitters, Dusty should say something, etc.

I think Steve Stone and Chip Caray are pretty bad too. I remember listening to Stone with Harry Caray and didn't think he was too bad. Ever since he came back, though, he's been pretty horrible, IMO. Still, it's better than the Caray/Joe Carter combo.

I actually like chip and steve. I didn't like chip when it was joe carter or dave otto. Now that Steve has come back i really enjoy that combo. I'd defend them, but i'm not even sure why i like them.

Yeah, Greg Brown definitely tries way too hard with his home run calls.

I've always liked Lanny Frattare's "Go ball! Get out of here! It's gone!" Nice, simple, and not overdone.

I'm glad Chip Caray moved away from basketball, because I never liked him as an Orlando Magic commentater. He and Goose Givens were a bad combination (and we're still stuck with 'Goose').

I hate that call, and the White Sux announcers, with a passion. When the Twins do play the Sux, and the Twins are winning, I love turning it to WGN, just to hear the Sux announcers.
