Todd Bertuzzi, Class Act

yep Todd, you are a real man.

you sure showed Steve Moore how to handle yourself in the NHL. you don't hit the star players like Moore did - instead you hit them from behind when you can't see it coming and slam them face first into the ice.

in boxing, they hit people facing them, not from behind.

There's a long standing tradition of this type of behavior in the NHL, which is why it will never rise above its "garbage" league image.

Three cheers for Bertuzzi and the status quo!

No there isn't. And if you actually watched more hockey then the instinces where this type of crap goes on you'd know that. The media hypes this up when it happens, and gives it far more attention then the actual game... Yes, stuff like this goes on, but it's doesn't occur as often as people like you and the mainstream media says it does.

Take the instigator rule out, and this wouldn't of happened! Bertuzzi or someone else would have squared off with him FAIRLY when Moore hit Naslund, none of this other crap would of happened.

Actually the Flyers and Senators just set the record for penalty minutes in one game, and the media barely covered it.

God this sucks. I live on the east coast and went to bed really early last night to wake up for 5 am. I'm just getting to the news ticker now and am sickened seeing this stuff. As an Avs fan this is unreal. Does anyone by chance have a link to watch a video highlight? I've been to NHL.com, TSn.ca, etc and havent found any highlights with the hit. I'm guessing I wont be able to see it until I get home tonight. Ah well, but if anyone has a link just let me know! Thanks

They did a pretty good job of covering on practically every sports gighlight show, and highlight package for news outlets. However, theres nothing wrong with what happened in that game... the media jumping on that would be off base. The media jumping on the Moore hit as "sick" is totally correct, it's just it'll recieve more attention from non-hockey fans then the game ever gets any other day.

Not excusing what Bert did, just saying it's completly unfair to generalize the game like PittPanther did based on the moronic behavior of one guy, or scattered instinces where this crap happens.

Hockey's problem is not the fights. It's problem is that it is not an American made sport.

It also doesn't go well with tv.

EDIT - I want to explain my comment above. MLB, the NFL, and the NBA all play sports that were pioneered in this country. Hockey wasn't and that's why there's not a bigger following of it.

They should let the players use guns. It would be much quicker.

I guess it didn't happen when Dale Hunter crushed Turgeon after the playoffs?

How about Dave Brown smashing Sandstroms' head with his stick?

Graves breaking Lemieux's hand?

Billy Smith trying to take Gretzsky's knees out behind the net?

Ulf Samuelson ruining Cam Neely's knee (twice)

McSorely smashing Brashear?

These are 6 examples that popped up in my head in 15 seconds. If I thought about it, I could probably come up with tons more.

Don't tell us it doesn't happen. It always happens.

NEVER SAID it didn't happen. But curious how you go from having scattered instinces to having it happen all the time.

Seems to me that I have provided several examples starting in the early 80's that show this behavior exists and has for some time.

If I feel like it, I'll dig deep into some of the literature I have around here and pull tons more examples of this type of thug-like behavior that the NHL condones.

I'll tell you what: The next time THIS YEAR (we can all use caps) a player goes after someone to intentionally injure him, I'll be sure to remind you of it.

We both know it will happen again.

You can probably find examples of thug like behaviour in every sport. How many times has a baseball been thrown at 90+ miles an hour towards a batter intentionally--sometimes at the head. Not to mention a few bat swinging and (throwing) incidents.

I have seen some pretty cheap shots in football as well--people running over a guy who has waved for a fair catch has caused some major injuries. Plus numerous other types of late hits on defensless players.

Not saying it doesn't happen in hockey, just that over the years there are some ugly incidents that happen in most sports.

I'm hoping Bertuzzi gets the book thrown at him for this instance. This is at least as bad as the McSorley incident which got 10 games, and probably even worse. McSorley only hit McCabe from behind with the stick, Bertuzzi hit Moore from behind, then slammed his head into the ice (After he'd been knocked out cold). If this gets any less than 15 games (Might as well say rest of regular season), then Campbell isn't doing his job.

I agree with you. The problem does exist and has for some time. Obviously it's going to happen again... it always does.

However, it doesn't happen all the time. Hockey is not a garbage sport. This isn't a problem that is unique to hockey. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm serious in saying that), but it's sort of obvious you don't like hockey. I'm not sure I can convince you otherwise unless you sit down and watch hockey games as a whole instead of just these ugly instinces. Things like this (the Bert hit) gives hockey an undeserved bad name... but I still agree with you that it's a problem, it's a problem if it happens once.

The league needs to give bigger suspensions, and penalties... and they need to take out the instigator rule to put the fear back in players so they won't take cheap shots or be careless with their sticks. This issue could of been solved in the game where Moore hit Nazy (although it was a clean hit), Bert or someone else on the Canucks could of squared off with the guy in a fair and clean fight.

I hope you didn't take personal offence to anything I said, I apoligize if I did. I just disagree strongly with you on a few things.
